One of my main goals as a leader is to have success. Success comes in many forms. Seeing a big project get completed, helping an employee improve and overcome a weakness, hitting a budget target, meeting customer needs and keeping them satisfied, and implementing a new procedure within the given parameters are all forms of success. There are many other forms of success that you will see in your career.
One important aspect of success is that success is in the eye of the beholder. What one person sees as success may be failure to someone else. Success is dependent on your expectations. As a leader, it is very important to be a good listener. When you are the leader, you have many responsibilities that you must do on a regular basis. There can get to be a lot of hustle and bustle around you. Amongst all the hustle and bustle, it can be a real challenge to listen to people around you. In leadership, a common hierarchy has one person at the top that oversees everyone else. That one person is responsible for making all the decisions and telling everyone else what to do. They are the leader and will be held responsible for the success and failure of their company or organization. This hierarchy has existed for so long that many people don’t think you can be a leader unless you are responsible for leading your group or organization.
Today, however, many people are starting to have leaders in a flat hierarchy organization. There are leaders in organizations where everyone is on the same plane. These organizations have no bosses and not one person has all the control. Many people would say that this type of a setup can’t exist and be successful because there is no leader.
