This week’s posts focused on topics that will help you, as a leader, to develop your character. They focused on helping your employees find their own forms of motivation, preparing for the worst, and standing up to be a leader. I hope you enjoy the posts!
How Do You Motivate Your Employees? – 7/9/2012
In leadership, one of the biggest challenges is getting and keeping your employees motivated. When your employees are motivated, they work harder with a greater resolve to get the job done. There are some employees that are almost always, if not always, motivated to work hard. At the same time, there are employees that have an extreme lack of motivation. They never want to do their job for one reason or another. All the reasons are just excuses when it comes down to it because the root of the issue is a lack of motivation.
Motivation is a very complex subject that cannot be fully discussed or explained in just one blog post. Within the leadership and management world, there are many theories about motivation. There is also constant discussion about what it takes to motivate people and why people are not motivated. More…
Are You Prepared For The Worst? – 7/10/2012
Today, I had an interesting experience. Midway through the afternoon, I received a text message from my wife asking me if I had done something to www.leadershipdoneright.com. She had gone on the site to check some things out and found that all she got was a message that said, “Sorry! This site is not currently available.” She immediately thought that I had done something to this site.
When I got her message, I immediately went to the site and got the same message. I then tried to go in through the back door as an administrator and got a message saying that the site I was looking for did not exist. At that point I almost had a panic attack… Okay, not really, but I was very nervous because I heard a story a little while back about someone that had their website canceled by WordPress.com without receiving any message or warning. They didn’t even get an explanation for why their site was canceled. More…
Wake Up And Be A Leader! – 7/12/2012
If you follow this blog, you have probably noticed that I regularly write posts about leaders in the news and the impact they have on the world. Leadership is an important responsibility because leaders determine where people end up and how their lives change. Today, I was going to post an article about leaders in the news. As I looked through articles to find one to write about, I was sorely disappointed in the number of articles I came across where the leader overspent, was dishonest, took the organization in the wrong direction, took too many risks, or did something else to ruin the organization.
In many ways I feel like I am probably preaching to the choir when I say this, but leaders everywhere need to wake up and BE leaders. Leaders need to stop being deceitful and do all they can to stop others from being deceitful. More…
Conclusion
This week’s posts received a lot of attention on LinkedIn. Motivation, preparation, and honesty and integrity are very popular leadership topics. There are two opposing sides or points of view to each topic. Everyone has their own opinion. Not everyone that read my posts felt the same way as me which was something I expected.
As a leader, you must take a stand and develop an opinion. If you don’t take a stand, you will be tossed to and fro like the waves of the sea. So what stance did you take? What opinions have you developed on the topics discussed above? Please share your thoughts on the comments section below!
