I love learning and with back to school time just around the corner, today is a great day to start thinking about learning. If you are young you can go back to school or college. But what if you are not in that stage anymore? How can you continue to learn?

Devastation Before The Blessing
I recently heard a lady speak that said she married young. Not long after getting married, she started having kids and soon she had seven kids. What a big family! She was in the late stages of her eighth pregnancy when she found out that her husband had a debilitating disease. He went from being a normal active person to being only there physically but mentally in another place. It was such a devastation.
The disease took such a toll on his body that he went downhill extremely fast. They eventually had to put him into a nursing home and lost him not long after. So here this lady was, eight kids, and not much more education than a high school diploma.
She had to put her life as a parent on hold for a time so she could go back to school to learn enough to take care of her kids and her family. As sad as this story is, the lady was very happy with the education she gained. Her education changed her life. It took her from one of the darkest periods of her life and gave her great joy and happiness because of her sense of accomplishment.
Education can really brighten our lives and give us a new ray of hope in a challenging world. Education gives us the edge we need to be competitive in a very competitive world. So how can we become educated?
Four Methods To Learn Today!
1. Enroll in Organized Classes
- Community College
- Online course
- Advanced certification
- lynda.com or other related professional training

2. Learn From The Best Books/Literature
There are so many books as well as other forms of literature in the world today. Some are high quality while others are not even worth your mental energy. It is very important to spend your time and energy learning from the best books and forms of literature. As a leader, your time is extremely valuable.
Find the books that give you the most value for your time and don’t be afraid to stop reading a book if it is not worth your time. There are also many other forms of literature that exist including blogs, newspapers, magazines, review journals, etc. These are good sources of information and learning, but just as with a book, you shouldn’t be afraid to stop reading if something is not worth your time.

3. Learn From People
How you can learn from other:
- Listening
- It’s been said that the reason why people forget names when they were introduced was that they weren’t paying attention when they were introduced. How important it is that we listen when we are talking to others and don’t just think and formulate our next response.
- Watching
- Observing
You have interactions with people on a regular basis. Each person has a different perspective on life and how things work together. Take each interaction that you have with someone as an opportunity to learn whether it be a teacher, doctor, coach, employee, boss, coworker, family member, supermarket cashier, or any other person you come in contact with.
Each person has had a different experience in life that can give you insight on how to live your life as a leader. There are so many lessons to be learned from the people around us that would be beneficial if we just take a moment to listen and understand.

4. Learn From Reflection
In addition to all the people that you come in contact with, you also make many choices on a regular basis. Some of those choices are good and some are not. Take time each day to reflect on the choices you make and the lessons you can learn. Also, reflect on how your choices are affecting others.
As you reflect, identify what you can do to be better and differently in the future so the outcome is more desirable. In addition to looking at what didn’t go as planned, reflect on what went well and why it went well so that you can duplicate it in the future.
As a leader, learning is very important and vital to your success. If you do the four things mentioned above each day, I promise you that not a day will go by that you will not learn something new that is valuable.
How have the above mentioned points helped you to learn something new each day? What habits have you changed in your life to make time to learn as mentioned above? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below!
