By Brandon W. Jones on August 23, 2017 0

One of the biggest stumbling blocks to success in the business world is fear. Most people face fear in one form or another all the time. Sometimes it is the fear of losing your current job, not getting the next promotion, speaking in front of others, or something else altogether. Fear is the opposite of faith and can be difficult to overcome. This post focuses on three easy steps to become the fearless leader.

It can also cause your downfall if you are not careful. You can become a fearless leader and be successful by doing the following three things:

1. Know Your Self-worth

When you realize your own self-worth, the sky becomes the limit to what you can do. Marianne Williamson made a powerful statement about self-worth. She said:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?” Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. Overcoming Fears in the Business World

By Brandon W. Jones on February 21, 2014 0

In the business world, there are many challenges that we face on a regular basis. One of the biggest difficulties is overcoming fears. They present themselves in many forms all the time. In the video below, I explain how overcoming fears can be made easy.

So how can you overcome your fear? How you face your fears determines whether or not you are successful. Fear can be a strong positive motivator when used properly, however, it can also lead to your destruction. You can overcome you fears and be successful by doing the following three things:

Overcoming Fears in the Business World

Know Your Self-Worth

When you realize your own self-worth, the sky becomes the limit to what you can do. Marianne Williamson made a powerful statement about self-worth. She said:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?” Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. ~Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles,” 1992

As the quote points out, each individual has great self-worth. When you know and understand your own self-worth, your self-confidence grows. [Read more…] about Overcoming Fears in the Business World

There are still debates about if the great leaders are born or made. Some say that the leadership skills are something that’s in the blood, and if the person is not born a leader, no learning will help. Their opponents, however, state that the leadership is like a skill and it can be learned, as follows.

I agree with the second statement, and lots of leadership trainings and books on how to turn yourself into a leader also reaffirm it. But what the ‘leadership’ word means for us is plenty of skills and abilities, which, in my opinion, makes a successful leader. And, having formed these habits and ways to act, you can turn yourself into a good leader. So, what are these qualities?

  1. Confidence and high self-esteem. Probably, it’s the first point we mention when someone who is, in our opinion, a good leader. A leader cannot be imagined without faith in everything he does and belief in himself. [Read more…] about The Leaders Are Born But You Can Learn

10 Lessons Learned From Leadership Examples

By Brandon W. Jones on March 4, 2013 6

Several great leaders in the form of teachers, athletic coaches, mentors, peers, youth group leaders, friends, and others have touched my life through their leadership examples.  They’ve shaped me into the person I am today.  They’ve told me when I was doing something wrong and encouraged me when I was going through a challenge.  In addition, they’ve taught me correct principles to help me avoid mistakes.  Of all the great leaders I’ve had, there have been two that have taught me more than anyone else.

My Leadership Examples

Those two great leadership examples are my parents.  My dad and mom have been great leadership examples throughout my life.  They’ve taught me many important leadership principles throughout my life.  They both understand that they are leadership examples to me so they  teach leadership principles whenever possible.  Their leadership examples are very powerful.  They’ve taught me the following ten lessons.

Who are your leadership examples?

1. Lead By Example

My dad and mom taught me the importance of leading by example.  As the leader, you can set the example for those you lead.  When you lead a diverse group, you may not fully understand everything your employees work on, but you can still set an example when it comes to values.

2. Have Faith

As I mentioned in my previous post, my mom and dad have always taught me to have faith in God, other people, and myself.  They taught me through words and by their leadership examples.  As a leader, faith allows you to get things done that you never thought possible.    [Read more…] about 10 Lessons Learned From Leadership Examples

How To Lose The Trust Of Those You Lead

By Brandon W. Jones on May 14, 2012 2

Honesty gives you strength.  When you are honest you have complete knowledge that everything you said was the truth.  You can have a clear mind and feel confident that nothing you said or did will come back to haunt you.

When you are honest in every way, you are able to enjoy peace of mind and maintain self-respect.  You build strength of character, which allows you to be of service to others.  You are trustworthy in the eyes of those around you. ~Unknown Author

On the other hand, if you are dishonest in your words or actions, you will hurt yourself or those around you.  You will lose the trust of your closest associates, and that trust will be hard if not impossible to regain.

Some forms of dishonesty include lying, cheating, and stealing.  Three major consequences that come as a result of dishonesty are:

1.  Loss of Self-worth

When you are dishonest, you will feel a loss in your sense of self-worth.  When you are dishonest, you are telling yourself and the world that you are not good enough to do things the honest way.  With each choice you make, you know what is honest and what is not.  When you make dishonest choices, you are hurting yourself as well as others.  Because you know yourself, you know the truth about everything you say and do.  With each time you say something that is not true, you begin to lose your feelings of self-worth. The Men’s Wearhouse: Success In A Declining Industry

By Brandon W. Jones on April 20, 2010 0

The case study, “The Men’s Wearhouse: Success In A Declining Industry,” discussed some of the techniques used by The Men’s Wearhouse during the late 1990’s that helped them to be successful through what was a recession. The management team put their people as their number one priority.

Men’s Wearhouse

In an industry where people put their marketing and selling as the focus of the organization, it was unusual for Men’s Wearhouse to place their people as their number one priority. The Men’s Wearhouse - Success In A Declining Industry

Currently we are facing one of the deepest economic recessions that we have had in a very long time. With the current situation, it is very common for layoffs to occur and people to be unemployed. This brings up the question of whether or not people are still the most important asset in the workforce.

Innovation, Customer Relations, and Growth

I would like to answer with a resounding YES! People are the source of innovation, customer relations, interaction, and growth. This case pointed out three principles that the Men’s Wearhouse followed that would greatly help people in today’s economy. The three principles are:

  1. Maximize the individual’s self-esteem
  2. Servant leadership is to listen carefully and to demonstrate understanding
  3. Management should ask for help in solving the problem

If each of these principles were followed in today’s economy, we may have not had the recession that we currently have. In line with the first principle, when the individual’s self-esteem is maximized, the collective morale of the organization increases. As the morale increases, it is very important that the people know where to direct their motivation.

Motivation

In order to direct the motivation in the right way, the second step must be followed. Management must follow the principle of servant leadership. In addition to listening carefully and demonstrating understanding, a servant leader must go and be with the people they lead. By being with the people they lead, they are able to create a stronger working relationship. The leaders are also able to lead by example when they are with those they lead.

Problem Solving

The third principle is to ask for help in solving the problem. By taking suggestions from the workforce, the management team can gain additional perspectives. With the additional perspectives, it is possible to make a much more educated decision.

Each of the three principles helps to emphasize the importance of the people within the organization. The people are the most important asset of any organization. The people are the source of the success within the organization. Without the people, the buildings and clothes are just buildings and clothes. People are essential for an organization to function properly.
