Credibility

Build Leadership Credibility

By Brandon W. Jones on November 20, 2014 2

When you are a leader it is really important that you have leadership credibility. When you have leadership credibility, those you lead will follow you to the ends of the earth because they trust you, your decisions and your ability to lead.

This credibility is very hard to gain. Leaders constantly face the challenge of gaining leadership credibility from their followers. Additionally, their followers try to test their leader’s leadership credibility. Followers want to know if their leaders are really qualified to be their leader. They also want to be sure that the leader knows what they are talking about.

How To Build Leadership Credibility

Leadership credibility is not something that can be gained over night. It is developed by consistent ethical and moral behavior. There are four characteristics that leaders should develop to build leadership credibility with their followers. [Read more…] about Build Leadership Credibility

Be The Leader And Own Up

By Brandon W. Jones on April 22, 2013 2

I really like to read the news.  By reading the news I stay informed as to what is going on and am able to see trends before and as they happen.  I like the stories about companies that are successful and those that are struggling because they teach me what works and what does not.  I also see what companies do well and what they do that doesn’t work.  Lately, I have seen a lot of leaders that are not willing to own up (take responsibility) when things go bad.  I have also seen other leaders that own up when things go well even when they should not be the ones taking the credit.

Be The Leader And Own Up

Own Up For Your Actions!

I did not do extensive research, however, I found that many of the leaders of the struggling companies did not own up for what had happened.  They each had a scapegoat because there was a chance the company would fail.  In addition to the articles I read this week, I have found that many times the leaders of failing companies do all they can to pass the blame by saying it is not their fault.  They are not willing to own up for where the company is going.   [Read more…] about Be The Leader And Own Up

Four Lessons From A CEO

By Brandon W. Jones on March 11, 2013 2

I love learning lessons from a CEO.  I am a younger leader, but have been a leader in different capacities for many years.  Through my time in leadership, I have always been fascinated by CEOs because they have reached the top leadership position in their organization.  There are many lessons from a CEO that you can learn as you review their behavior and responses to different actions.

A few years ago I read a case study about Gary Loveman and his transition as the CEO of Harrah’s.  The case study explained that he went from being a college professor to the CEO of a large organization without a long history of leadership.  When he joined Harrah’s, he started out as the COO and then became the CEO after five years.  This case study helped me learn lessons from a CEO.

Four Lessons From A CEO

Gary Loveman changed the system at Harrah’s.  He changed the system because of the person he was and the approach he took to leadership. There were four lessons from a CEO that we can learn from his success.
1. He gained credibility with the employees/management team.
2. He worked to understand the existing system
3. He had high expectations.
4. He led by example.

How To Choose Not To Be Offended by Jeremy Statton

Has anyone ever offended you?

Reasons to find offense surround us. Bosses. Employees. Presidential candidates. Religions. Kentucky Wildcat fans.

Offense seems to be an obligation. A natural response to someone else. When we see things that we do not like, we feel we have no choice but to become upset. And express it adamantly.

We view our response as outside of our hands. We are only reacting to others.

Brandon’s Thoughts
When you choose to be offended you must understand that it is a choice within your control.  No one can force you to be offended.  As leaders, you should grow tough skin and be willing to take criticism.  If you get offended every time you receive criticism, you are not cut out for leadership.  Leaders must take criticism as an opportunity to learn from past experiences.
