Welcome!

We connected on LinkedIn and I am honored and humbled to have her on the show. Our guest today is Suzanne Bates. Suzanne, welcome to the show!

Communication is One of the Biggest Needs

Early in Suzanne’s career, she took a leap and transitioned from the news room to CEO of her own entrepreneurial adventure. She decided to start Bates Communication. “I saw the path in my life to make a change. I guess I had the entrepreneurial bug. I started modestly just thinking, perhaps I could carve out a niche as a solo entrepreneur doing presentations, media, and leadership communication coaching.” That’s what she did in the beginning.

As she got to know more leaders, she realized there was a deeper need that she could fill. That required a more comprehensive approach. She built a company and brought in people that had expertise in a variety of areas.

The Need for Communication Coaching

As she consulted with a variety of companies, leaders explained that communication training and skills were the biggest need. That was due to communication breakdowns and challenges to effectively communicate the vision and direction of the organization.

Suzanne explained that “It’s [effectively communicating] the most important thing leaders can do. Learn to tell the story, engage their audiences, connect them to the purpose, and understand what kind of qualities of presence there are.” “Qualities of presence are a lot more than people think. It’s qualities of character like authenticity, integrity, concern about other people, and the substance we bring to our deliberations and decisions.” She explained that it includes things like practical wisdom, decisiveness, and the style of communication we bring. 4 Reasons Why Humility Is A Leadership Strength

By Brandon W. Jones on September 27, 2017 1

Hi, and welcome to the Leadership Done Right YouTube channel. One leadership quality that has become less and less popular is humility. People feel like in order to compete in the business world they have to be strong, competitive, and anything but humble. Humility is looked at, in many cases, as a weakness. I believe, however, that humility is a leadership strength.

Why Humility Is A Leadership Strength

Humility Is A Leadership Strength

I would like to suggest four reasons why humility is a leadership strength and not a weakness.

1. Humility is NOT Insecurity

Insecurity happens when you are not secure in yourself or your beliefs. You lack an understanding of your purpose or value. When you are humble, however, you are not insecure. You understand yourself, your beliefs, and the unique value you provide.

2. Understand Your Limitations

Every leader has limitations. When you are humble, you know what you can and can’t do. You also know that each person brings their own unique value to the table. When you are humble, you treat people with respect and dignity. Because you are humble and treat people with respect, you are able to get their support when needed. You are able to use their skills for the betterment of the group. [Read more…] about 4 Reasons Why Humility Is A Leadership Strength

5 Reasons Why Business Leaders Should Embrace Social Media

By Brandon W. Jones on September 8, 2017 1

This is a guest post by Maya Lisa. Maya works a senior writer for one of the best Coursework Writers-Coursework Writing Service UK on the internet. With Coursework Writers, she helps students who are looking for services and she enjoys writing about social media.

As a manager, every minute you spend at work is crucial. Therefore, investing even fifteen minutes on social media for your LinkedIn profile or Twitter are not among your priorities.

Sadly, very few managers are digital natives. Most feel their juniors are more comfortable staying trendy on social media and they will lose credibility if they follow in their footsteps. What they don’t realize is that staying active on social media has everything to do with credibility these days.

Gone are the days when the internet was only used for looking at pictures of cats and sending cheesy jokes to each other. It has now evolved into an exceptional platform for making your voice heard and inspiring others to make a difference, and business leaders are supposed to stay on top of this platform!

5 Reasons Why Business Leaders Should Embrace Social Media

So, without further ado, here are five solid reasons why you, as a leader, should have an active presence on social media:

1. Position Yourself And Your Company As Experts

More than anything, a business leader wants their organization to be seen as an essential authority in its sector. Participating in events, writing reports and implementing advertising campaigns are great ways to build brand identity and generate engagement.

For effective engagement, social media is your best friend. Share relevant content through your personal accounts and let your audience know what you’ve been up to. Write blog posts, share pictures on Instagram, do live streaming on Facebook; the possibilities are endless and it’s time to get creative! Podcast Episode #6 — How to Develop Confidence and Influence

By Brandon W. Jones on July 10, 2017 0

Hello and welcome to the Leadership Done Right Podcast, Episode 6 – How to Develop Confidence and Influence.

How to Develop Confidence and Influence

This is one of my favorite quotes from Marianne Williamson and then later used by Nelson Mendela.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

What is confidence?

Confidence is not arrogance. Confidence is belief in oneself and one’s powers or abilities; self-confidence; it’s self-reliance; it’s assurance. When someone has confidence, they know that they can do what it takes to be successful themselves and they can help others to be successful.
