Hello, and welcome to the Leadership Done Right Podcast, Episode 40: 10 Reasons Why You Need to Hire a Coach!
A few weeks ago in episode 38, I talked about the importance of coaching and different people that have had coaches. I also talked about what coaching is and what it is not. Today, we’re going to talk about 10 Reasons Why You Need to Hire a Coach.
I want to start off by sharing an audio clip from Tony Robbins.

10 Reasons Why You Need to Hire a Coach
Getting a coach will help you take your career and life to the next level!
1. Get Clear About Your Goals
If you are anything like me, there’s probably been a time or two where you had a lot on your mind and it was hard to sort it all out. You may have had leaders wanting you to do one thing while others were encouraging you to do something completely different. In cases like these coaching is invaluable. Your coach can help you determine what’s really important to you and help you stay focused on that.
2. Identify Blind Spots
There’s a common saying that you don’t know what you don’t know. Your coach can help you figure out what you don’t know by asking you questions and cluing you in to things you may not know or see. They will also be honest with you because they won’t have a vested interest in any specific outcome.
3. Hold You Accountable
Coaches hold you accountable for your progress. They keep you on track and moving forward toward new levels of achievement. For many of us, having someone we answer to motivates us to act. Just like the example I have used of having a gym partner that drives you to go to the gym.
4. Gain Confidence
When you’ve been struggling along on your own for a while, it’s easy to become demotivated and lose confidence in your abilities. A coach will help you get back on track which will boost your confidence and give you the motivation to keep working hard.
5. Improve Your Leadership Skills
Working with a coach will also help to refine and improve your leadership skills. The strategies you learn will not only make you a better listener, but also train you to adopt powerful questioning skills. You can apply these skills to analyze business success, manage others, and implement changes in both work and life. These traits are so important, whether you’re leading staff within your own business, or aiming to get ahead as an employee.
6. Feel Happier
As we discussed before the break, coaches help us gain clarity about our goals, identify our blind spots, improve our leadership skills, and gain confidence, that all leads to increased happiness and fulfillment. Coaches help us be more focused as we cut through the clutter. That all leads to more personal and professional fulfillment.
7. Improve Communication Skills
As you work with a coach, the coach will ask you a series of questions all with the intent of learning more about you, your situation, and how they can best help you. As you answer those questions and have discussions with your coach you will be learn how to more effectively articulate your thoughts. That in turn will improve your ability to articulate your thoughts as you communicate with others.
8. Gain Mental Clarity
Have you ever been in a situation where you went to ask someone a question and as you were explaining the problem to that person, all of a sudden you figured out the answer? That likely happened because you gained mental clarity on the topic as you were explaining it to the other person. Your coach will help you gain mental clarity as you discuss your thoughts, challenges, and other difficulties.
9. Reach Your Potential
Perhaps you’re plodding along just fine but not really hitting the high notes or achieving what you know you’re capable of. Hiring a coach can help you get serious about the success you deserve, and motivate you to step it up a level to reach your true potential.
10. Gain Competitive Advantage
When I think about the great coaches, I often think about sports. I love sports and love the thrill of the game! One aspect of sports that I truly love is when a new coach takes a bad team and completely turns them around just by effectively coaching them! How does that happen? The coach helps the team, effectively use their skills and abilities which in turn becomes a competitive advantage and allows them to be successful. That same thing will happen to you as you hire a coach. The coach will help you to effectively use your skills and abilities helping you differentiate yourself from the pack and advance your career.
By hiring a coach, you will:
- Get Clear About Your Goals
- Identify Blind Spots
- Hold You Accountable
- Gain Confidence
- Improve Your Leadership Skills
- Feel Happier
- Improve Communication Skills
- Gain Mental Clarity
- Reach Your Potential
- Gain Competitive Advantage
