As a leader, you probably have many leadership responsibilities. This week has been one of those weeks for me and it has been a challenging week to keep up on blogging. Because my time was so limited, I just decided to highlight some of the posts that I really enjoyed without taking the time to post my thoughts on each post.
Some of the posts that I am highlighting in this weeks top 5 leadership blog posts were about leadership relationships. As a leader, it is very important to work to maintain good relationships with those you lead. The relationships you make as a leader are very important because leaderships are, in many cases, far more important than the actual work you do.

It’s been said so many times, but it’s worth repeating, “Good leadership is more than getting tasks accomplished.” Quality leadership develops people. It builds people up, inspires confidence and makes a genuine, positive difference in everything it touches. One thing that leadership MUST do is influence, maintain and perpetuate culture.
Often times leaders get so focused on WHAT to do that HOW to do things becomes open for interpretation. Don’t misunderstand what I mean by this. It isn’t a license or call to micro-manage people or bureaucratically babysit them. It is a delicate balance – a dance if you will. People need their autonomy and enough freedom for the individuality to shine through. The line needs to be drawn where the desired expression of individuality begins to erode the desired culture and THAT is where cultural leadership must be effective.

Most of us are wired to appreciate respect and to reciprocate in kind. And vice-versa.
Showing respect is a choice we all make at every encounter. For anyone in a leadership role, it’s quite possibly the most powerful performance tool in your toolkit, nosing out feedback at the finish line. (Of course, delivering quality, timely feedback to promote growth is in fact a means of showing respect to another person.)

Being thankful every day
If you are surrounded by amazing people, they will keep lifting you up and help you make a bigger impact on whatever you are doing. They will help YOU to become a “better YOU” every single day. So, you will have an opportunity to be thankful every day.
Or, looked at it the other way around, if you feel like being thankful every day, then you already know that you are being surrounded by amazing people.
In addition (and more importantly) the magic is in the other way around.
Breaking Up Is Hard To Do By Lyn Boyer
Bibi and Poldi, two giant turtles at an Austrian zoo have fallen out after 115 years together. Zoo officials say that Bibi, the female, took a chunk out of Poldi’s shell, and the two now refuse to share a cage. Animal experts have attempted couples’ therapy—in this case mood food and joint turtle games. However, in spite of staff efforts to encourage interaction, the turtles remain at odds—and in separate cages.
Business relationships also become rocky. What starts with stars in one’s eyes becomes a pain in the neck. The smiles that defined the beginning of something great too often turn into scowls of anger or perpetual annoyance. The tears of joy turn into tears of remorse.
