Have you experienced the benefits of daily meditation? With all the stresses of leadership, daily meditation is very helpful! In leadership, there are many things that can stress you on a daily basis. The following questions can cause a lot of stress. “What are you doing to improve the bottom line? What are you going to do to change the culture of your organization? What are you doing to help improve your organization? What are you doing to improve yourself? Are you doing enough to change the existing systems to make them run more smoothly?” As a leader, you are probably confronted with each of these questions regularly, as well as many more.

So what can you do to get the answers? Although each answer comes in its own way, daily meditation can help you to clear your mind. Daily meditation can also help you to think through the solutions in your mind before you have to present them to others. After daily meditation, your head is clear and you can be more focused when you go back to identifying solutions to your problems.
The “how” of daily meditation
So how do you meditate? Some people meditate by reading their scriptures. Others meditate by praying for guidance. Another way people meditate is by sitting in silence and reflecting on where their lives are and where they are going. Daily meditation is very powerful.
I try to have daily meditation every day. I recently started waking up very early each day to give myself time for daily meditation. In my daily meditation I read my scriptures and think about what is important to me. I also spend time reading good books and preparing my thoughts for the day. It sounds funny and maybe even surprising that I include study time in my daily meditation, but as I study my head becomes more clear so I am more prepared to handle the challenges of the day.
On the days that I get in my daily meditation, I have a greater sense of calm, peace, and confidence. I handle the stress of the day with much more ease. It doesn’t mean life is always easy, but I am more prepared to handle the challenges that come.
Do you have a time set aside for daily meditation? What do you do for your daily meditation? What effect does daily meditation have on your leadership? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below!
I am not yet a leader in my workplace, and probably my words count less than others, but I wanted to comment because I totally agree with the importance of meditation. Meditation helps clearing your head and at the same time to become more concious of what is important for you at work and in life.
Most of people think that meditation is a sort of bizarre practice in which you need to stay motionless and monitor your breath. As a consequence, eventually, people end up avoiding meditation and restricting them-self to “thinking”. “Thinking” is essential and unavoidable, and it drives all the small choices we make in the everyday life. However, sometimes, everyone needs a brain break, and here is when meditation become vital and “thinking” is not enough. As you said, meditation gives that sense of calm and peace that, if regularly reached, allows you to live your life more efficiently and with more confidence. Meditation can be performed in many different ways, far from the concept of the Buddhism monk.
I have mainly two ways of meditate. The first one is driving my car in silence, with the radio switched off,on my way back from work. Even if I love listening to the radio, in those moments I need silence. Driving the care becomes suddenly natural and spontaneous, and my thoughts are completely free to run in my mind and find their place to be read and interpreted. It is probably only 15 or 20 minutes but when I get home, my mind is amazingly fresh, even after a full day of hard work. When I cannot do that, because of traffic or other reasons, my meditation is after sport. After training in the gym or into the field with the team, there is a moment in which your body and mind are perfectly connected to start meditating. It might be a matter of hormones release and physical relaxation, but only sports gave me that sensation, and meditation in that moment is even easier. I, therefore, spend a bit of time meditating before going home or under the shower, and I find it very very useful.
Welcome Luca!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on meditation! The insight you added is very valuable even if you are new to leadership.
You brought up some great points on the importance of meditating and how to meditate. Meditation can be done anywhere that you are able to have some quiet alone time. It doesn’t always have to be in the same spot at the same time every day. Meditation can be done whenever and wherever works best for each person individually.
The benefits of meditation are incredible because it allows you to clear your head and refocus on what is most important to you in your life. Without regular meditation it is very easy to lose track of your goals and focus.
The purpose of meditation, as much as thinking (these are typically equal most of the time) is to reach enlightenment, let this word never be alien to you–It simply means to understand. meditation is like defragmenting our computers, in the event that you are familiar with that.
Fortunately, I had a friend who gave me the little bit of help I desperately needed. She showed me this learntomeditate.online and told me it was a god send for her I was like what? I have to try that too!
Hi Thomas,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I agree that as you meditate you are able to get enlightened. They key to effective meditation is to get yourself into the right mindset. From there, like you said, you can defragment. It’s a lot easier said than done though and like anything takes practice.
