People constantly drive change. That is so much the case that change has become a regular part of the vocabulary amongst people all over the world. So how do people drive change?
I would like to suggest five reasons why/how people drive change.
1. People drive change by learning, evolving, and improving
Have you ever been in a situation where you learned something new and wanted to use it to make a difference? People all over the world are learning new things everyday and want to share what they learn with people around them. That creates an excitement about learning which drives more learning.
As people learn, they begin to make changes in their lives. They evolve and improve. They realize that there is a better way to do things and improve so they can get more out of life.
2. People drive change as they compete
People are driven by competition. They compete in many different aspects of life. People compete for your business, the next promotion, recognition from their peers, a victory in sports, etc.
When it comes to competition, people try to do a little better than they did last time. They also strive to be better than the next person. That competition causes them to change their methods so they can do things better.
3. People drive change to have variety in life
Have you ever done the same thing over and over again for an extended period of time? If so, you probably hit a where you got tired the same thing and wanted a change. You probably looked for a different way to do what you were doing so you could mix things up.
People drive change to have variety in their life. It makes things new, exciting, and different. Change makes life interesting.
4. People drive change by limited resources
There is a limited amount of time, money, natural resources, human resources, etc. Due to the limited resources, people drive change to make more with less. This happened a lot during the economic recession from 2007 to the present. Many businesses were low on money so they cut employees while maintaining their level of production. They changed their processes to get more with less.
5. People drive change because they have different perspectives
People drive change because they like to do things their way. Each person has a unique style and method for doing things. It is very common to see someone new to management or leadership make a multitude of changes. Is that because those who went before didn’t know what they were doing? Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. Many times, however, the new leader makes changes because they like it when things are done their way. Usually “their way” comes from their unique experiences and perspectives on life.
Conclusion
If people didn’t drive change, life would probably be boring. The same routine day-in and day-out, would get very tiring because people need something new. It is human nature to want variety in life. For that reason, people drive change.
