Technology drives change because it provides people with an easier way to do things. People like to be efficient and effective with their use of time, so they can get the most out of each day. They like being able to do more with less. The minute a new technology is discovered that allows people to be more efficient or effective, it is adopted.
For example, prior to email, people sent everything through their local mail carrier. To mail a letter, one had to (1) write or type the letter, (2) fill out an envelope with the name of the person and address, (3) go to the Post Office to purchase stamps, and (4) put the letter in the mailbox. Those four steps involved time, effort, and money (gas and postage). Once email came out, however, that four step process was reduced to typing out the email and hitting send. In addition to limiting the number of steps, it saved time and money.

Technology drives change because it makes life easier. Technology is used most effectively when it eliminates work. For example, the smart phone can dramatically save people time when used properly. Rather than having to go to a library to look at a book or sit at your computer to look something up online, people can spend a few seconds looking something up on their smartphone.

When you wake up to your cell phone alarm in the morning, cook your breakfast in the microwave, and then step into your car that has powered windows, locks, and satellite radio, you have experienced the benefit of many technological changes before even getting to work. When new technology is discovered and adopted, it improves life at a very quick rate. With each new technology, people adapt their lives to live better.
