It is perhaps better to become a leader instead of a follower (member) because when you are a leader, you get to run things the way you want. Everyone in this world is born with some leadership skills. The only way you can flourish those skills when you seek them within. If you are a follower now, it is not necessary that you will remain a follower forever. Definitely, you can be a leader someday if you just believe in yourself and polish your leadership skills.

The current digital age is the era of entrepreneurship. In this era, the “generation y” prefers to set up their own business and run the game using their own innovative ideas instead of working as an employee for someone else. No doubt that one must possess innovative mind to set up a profitable business, yet it’s not possible without having good leadership skills.
The point is that even if you are a millennial, you can become a great leader at any workplace. The only requirement is that you demonstrate true leadership skills. Let’s take a look at how you can do that!
1- Learn To Motivate
A best leader makes others follow him by his exemplary behavior and impressive work style. The word ‘motivation’ has the power to change the world, which is exactly what a good leader tend to make accomplish.
If you are a young leader, you must first understand the psyche of your followers to motivate them in a better way. There are five needs that a person seeks to fulfill. These needs include basic needs, safety needs, social needs, self actualization needs and self esteem needs. Apart from basic and safety needs, the rest of the three are the real motivators for a person. Once a certain level of a need is fulfilled, one moves on to the next level.
Now the question is how come a leader would know about the lacking stage of the need of his follower. The best way is to listen patiently what others need or expect from you and then act accordingly. Sometimes, just a thumb up for appreciation is enough to motivate, while in some cases only a reward can stir the motivation of the followers or members.
2- Be Flexible
To become a good leader, it is crucial to first learn how to apply different leadership styles according to the situation. Be autocratic (strict) with your team members when you need your work done at any cost within minimal time constraint. Prefer benevolent autocratic style when you want to extract a whole lot of ideas from the pool of your members- yet, the final decision rests on you. Sometimes, you may also become participative and friendly with your members when you want to give them a certain level of freedom to make independent decisions.
Apart from these leadership styles, there are many other styles that you can learn through your own supervisors, boss or an influential personality in your niche.
3- Do SWOT Analysis
A best leader always takes action according to the situation. If you are leading a huge team, it’s necessary to do a preliminary analysis of your team’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Strengths and weaknesses are the internal factors whereas opportunities and threats are the external factors that exist outside an organization. You can never take a wrong decision if you do SWOT analysis before making a decision. Putting this tip into practice will help you achieve maximum in your best times. Moreover, SWOT analysis may also help you plan for the worst.
4- Groom Your Personality
Remember that whatever you do, people will follow your footsteps because you are a leader and they are your team members or followers. Therefore, your personality and behavior must reflect an ideal example in front of them. If people will like your personality they will definitely follow you of their own violation, and not because of your intimidation.
