Leadership is one of the most discussed topics in the sphere of management. Few leaders, however, speak of this subject because they are busy with their primary business of managing people.

Leadership, however, is a knowing how things should be and how to help people realize their talents and capabilities to make them a reality.

Work experience shows that few organizations tend to their workers potential. The main reason lies within old-fashioned methods of management; fear and an unwillingness to stimulate leaders. This is related to leadership myths around this notion.

Five Leadership Myths

A myth is an idea, which is false but considered to be true. Unfortunately, leadership myths explicated below oftentimes do not help good managers show themselves.

Leadership Myth №1: Leadership is a rare gift that few have.

Many believe that leaders are born, not made. They believe that people are born as leaders and one cannot learn leadership. It is not like that. It is possible after all to learn leadership.

Many people have potential to become good leaders and managers. Just like the majority of other skills, leadership skills require time, training and correction of mistakes to master. [Read more…] about 5 Leadership Myths – Do You Have One of These Beliefs?

Set Habits For Success

By Brandon W. Jones on May 15, 2013 2

Most leaders desire success.  Success comes from a process.  That process is the sum of your habits.  Therefore, set habits for success.  Habits for success will change your way of living.  You can introduce habits for success into every aspect of life.  Michael Hyatt said in his post 7 Ways Successful Creatives Think Differently than Unsuccessful Ones, “Develop a winning mindset and cultivate the habits of successful thinking. This is what separates the best creatives from all others.”

Set Habits For Success

Over the past several years, many habits for success were built into my life by circumstance.  Recently, however, I intentionally created habits for success.  I started getting up at 5:15 AM everyday to study in the morning.  I started reading books other than textbooks regularly to activate my mind.  In addition, I started going to bed by 10:30 PM every night.  Each of these habits for success has improved my mental clarity and increased my knowledge. Take Control Of Your Life

By Brandon W. Jones on April 10, 2013 2

When you want to take control of your life, you must make your own choices.  Those who take control are willing to own their choices.  They know that each time they take control of their choices, they will learn something new whether it is good or bad.  When you don’t take control of your life, you push your choices onto others and then blame them for the outcome when it is bad.  If, however, the outcome is good, they are the ones that are quick to take all the credit for a good decision.

Take Control Of Your Life

What happens when you take control?

I have another friend that has gone through a lot of hardships.  He has lost his job multiple times due to layoffs, been rejected in relationships, and not been able to find a good job that met his qualifications. He has even struggled to make ends meet.  Overall, he has many reasons to complain.  He could blame his situation on everyone else for their behavior and what they have done to him, but he has a different approach.  He is always positive and regularly looks inward to figure out what he needs to do differently.  He constantly seeks opportunities to do more and be better.  He has the attitude that he will not let himself settle for what he thinks he can earn by taking control of his life.  With this attitude, he is gradually finding success, but it has come as a result of his hard work and dedication.  He has taken control of his life.

What happens when you don’t take control?

I have a friend that is a chronic complainer.  He has been blessed with many material possessions compared to most, but every chance he gets he complains about someone or something. “That person isn’t nice enough.”  “I am underprivileged because I don’t have the nicest new thing.”  “It’s not fair that I ONLY have this and everyone else has that, especially with the amount of work I put in.  It’s not fair!”  “It’s not my fault that this is happening to me, it is the boss’s fault.”  “I would be more successful if that person didn’t put that road block in my way.”  The list of his comments and negativity goes on and on.  He never takes any of the blame for his situation because it is always the fault of something or someone else.  He did not take control of his life because he has given his control to others. Learn To Control Life

By Brandon W. Jones on March 2, 2013 3

When you are a leader, everyday brings a multitude of problems, challenges, and opportunities.  Each comes from a variety of sources with different people involved.  As you face the problems, challenges, and opportunities, think about how to control life.  You must realize what is within your control and what is not.  As a leader, it is very easy to want to control life completely to the point that you forget that you can’t control certain things.  When you try to control the uncontrollable it only leads to stress, frustration, burnout, and disappointment.  As a leader, you must truly think about and understand how to control life.

Do you control life or does life control you?

Do You Understand How To Control Life?

So, when do you control life and when does someone else control life?  This question is very important when approaching each day.  You should ask this question when you set your priorities and determine how to spend your time and money.  It is very easy to get caught up trying to control things outside your control, but that creates unneeded stress.

When deciding how to control life, you must grasp the controlled and let go of the uncontrollable.  How can you grasp the controlled?  How can you let go of the uncontrollable?  To control life you must understand what is controllable and what is not. [Read more…] about Learn To Control Life

The Difference Between A Leader And A Controller

By Brandon W. Jones on May 30, 2012 11

Recently I received a request to talk about the difference between leadership and the control of others.  So what is the difference?  Do you lead or control others?  In leadership it may seem like there is a fine line between controlling others and leading them, but in reality they are completely different.  The biggest difference between the two is choice and accountability.

The Controller

The controller uses a completely different set of tactics than a leader.  They don’t give people the freedom to make choices.  They use threats.  For example, you may hear them say, “If you don’t do _______, I won’t do ______ for you.”  Or you may even hear them say, “You do this, or you will get it.”  You can fill in your own blanks.

Those who control others are very dominant on the outside, but insecure on the inside.  They have the tendency to control because they don’t trust their followers.  They don’t think people will follow them unless they are controlling over them.  The controller also uses manipulation and/or blackmail.  They tell people that if they don’t follow them, they will hold it against them.
