Create Your Personal Development Plan Strategy

Hi, and welcome to the Leadership Done Right YouTube channel! In this video, we are going to answer the question, “How can YOU develop the strategy for your personal development plan?”

As mentioned in the last video, whether you are trying to obtain your ideal life, become a highly successful leader, pick up a new skill, develop a new hobby, or improve in some other way, it is very important that you have a personal development plan.

Develop Your Personal Development Plan Strategy

So let’s talk about how you can develop a strategy for your personal development plan. Before anything else, it’s important to understand that your personal development plan is an active living, breathing, and changing plan. It can and should change from year to year. Once this is understood, consider the following.

When you develop your strategy, identify what you want out of life. What does your ideal life look like? What short, medium, and long-term goals will help you obtain your ideal life? By thinking about these questions, you can create a personal development plan that helps you get from where you are NOW, to where you want to be. You Can Succeed – Learn What It Takes

By Brandon W. Jones on November 7, 2014 0

For this week’s Friday quote, I would like to share a poem that I heard by a good friend of mine. I like the poem so much that I told my wife about it and she made it into a decorative saying and put it in a frame for me.

You Can Succeed - Be the Man

Be The Man

The MAN who decides what he wants to achieve
and works till his dreams all come true,

The MAN who will alter his course if he must
and BRAVELY begin something new.

The MAN who’s determined to MAKE his world better,
who’s willing to learn and to lead,

The MAN who keeps trying and doing his best
is the MAN who knows how to SUCCEED.

You Can Succeed!

This poem is titled “Be The Man,” but it is just as applicable to women as it is to men. I really like this poem because it gives me courage to work hard, do my best, be willing to try new things, and set and obtain goals. [Read more…] about You Can Succeed – Learn What It Takes

The Difference Between A Dream And A Goal

By Brandon W. Jones on April 11, 2013 1

In life there are goals and there are dreams.  Do you have dreams?  Do you have goals?  What is the difference between a dream and a goal?  This post will explain the difference between a dream and a goal.

The Difference Between A Dream And A Goal

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.
T. E. Lawrence

The quote above is very powerful.  Have you ever sat back and thought, “Wouldn’t it be nice if some day I could _______!”  Or have you thought, “I hope that some day I can _________.”  You can fill in the blank on whatever comes to your mind.  Whenever you have these thoughts, you are probably dreaming about a future that is better that your current situation. The Top 5 Mistakes Leaders Make by Beth Armknecht Miller

Over the years, I have worked with hundreds of leaders many who have displayed specific leadership shortfalls, that when improved, have had a positive impact on the effectiveness and profitability of the organization. Both new and experienced manager/leaders can make these top five mistakes; which one is your Achilles heel? And what is your plan to improve?

  1. Focusing on the urgent and not the important
  2. Lack of consistent communication
  3. Ineffective feedback
  4. Failing to define clear goals
  5. Misunderstanding motivation

Brandon’s Thoughts
I really like the points that Beth made.  It is very important to not fall prey to any of these pitfalls.  As a leader, it is so important to regularly evaluate your performance and identify what works well and what does not.  As you do that, you will avoid the mistakes other people had to painstakingly go through.
