8 Keys to Run Effective Meetings

When you are a leader, you are required to attend a lot of meetings. You have management meetings, planning meetings, training meetings, project meetings, etc. The list goes on… meetings, meetings, meetings… Sometimes they are very effective meetings and other times they are almost a complete waste of time. So what does it take to have effective meetings?

8 Keys to Run Effective Meetings

Before getting people together in a meeting, understand the value of people’s time. People are busy and have many important responsibilities they must address on a regular basis. Be considerate of others’ time and the many things they have to do.

Too many meetings are held just for the sake of having a meeting. Often, the meeting purpose no longer exists, but the meeting continues. Some will say, “We’ve always had the meeting so we should always have it!” These meetings are most likely a waste of time because they are not effective. The Risks Of Promoting Without Giving Raises

By Brandon W. Jones on December 5, 2014 3

The Wall Street Journal article The Risks Of Promoting Without Giving Raises by Paul O. Lopez explained that there are many companies that want to promote their employees even though they are experiencing hard economic times.

The Risks Of Promoting Without Giving Raises - Article Review

2 Reasons Why to Promote Without a Raise?

They must take particular caution when there are promotions that could be construed as racist or discriminatory. [Read more…] about The Risks Of Promoting Without Giving Raises

Help People Learn How to Change

Help People Learn How to Change

When someone understands that change is necessary, it doesn’t mean they know how to make the change. They may know that something is important to do, but not know how to implement it. There are two types of people that don’t know how to change. There are humble people that want to change and will accept your help. And, there are people that want to change but are too arrogant to take help from anybody. As a leader, you will experience two extremes and everything in between.

Help People Learn How to Change

They don’t know how to change

Have you ever heard the saying that, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks?” That saying is definitely true when it comes to change. There are a lot of people that have a very hard time picking up new methods or techniques when it comes to change.

Regardless of one’s age, there are many “old dogs” that can’t be taught new tricks. This could be the young teenager that thinks they know it all. It could be the recent college graduate that thinks he or she learned everything they needed to know to be successful in college. It could be the experienced professional that feels they have all the answers because they’ve “been there and done that.” There are also people that question why a change is necessary because they have gotten along this long without the change, so why do they need the change? Whoever it is, there are many people that can’t change because they don’t know how to change. So why don’t they know how to change? [Read more…] about Help People Learn How to Change
