Hello and Happy New Year! I hope each of you are having a great start to 2019! 2018 want to wish each of you a very happy New Year! 2018 is going to be the best year yet!

With the new year upon us, now is the best time to set and/or refresh your goals, but regardless of when you listen to this episode it is always a good time to set and work towards completing your goals.

In last week’s episode, I talked about setting goals using SMART goals. I also talked about creating a plan and 5 Keys to creating an effective plan. In this episode, I am going to discuss 10 reasons why people fail to complete their goals and 5 steps to ensure your goals are successful.

10 Reasons People Fail To Complete their Goals

Have you ever been discouraged when working on a goal? Have you ever failed to complete a goal? Or, have you started working on a goal and lost your way? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are not alone. Many people lose their way on goals. In fact, here’s10 reasons why people fail to complete their goals.

1. Not a Strong Enough Why

People fail to complete their goals when they don’t have a strong enough WHY. When you set a goal, it must have a strong motivating WHY. Too often people set a goal because it sounds cool or fun, but they don’t have a reason why it is important. Michael Hyatt often says, “When you lose your WHY, you lose your way!” It is very easy for a goal to fall apart or be forgotten when you forget your WHY.

The WHY must be strong enough to motivate you through good times and bad. And, when you are busy and times are challenging. If the WHY will not keep you motivated, then don’t set the goal. Without a strong WHY, the goal will likely fail, which will lead to frustration and discouragement.

Five Leadership Principles For Beginning Leaders

By Brandon W. Jones on November 9, 2017 3

A little while back I went to a leadership training meeting for new leaders. My role was to support the new leaders I oversaw. As part of the training, they discussed many topics related to effective leadership. One of the speakers mentioned five leadership principles for beginning leaders that really stuck out to me.

5 Leadership Principles For Beginning Leaders

As people implement each of the five leadership principles, they will improve their leadership capabilities and become better leaders.

1. Determine Needs

Before much progress can be made, leaders must determine the needs of their target audience. The needs fall into one of three categories. They include the needs of the:

  1. Customers
  2. Employees
  3. Organization

To determine these needs, ask and/or observe members of each group specifically. By asking what the needs are, you get direct feedback. When you cannot ask what the needs are or they are not explicitly stated, be observant to recognize the unstated needs. Once the needs of the specific groups are identified, determined how to best fill those needs. [Read more…] about Five Leadership Principles For Beginning Leaders

Goal Setting Basics #4- 5 Steps to Ensure Your Goals are Successful - Communicate

1. Communicate Your Goals to Others

First, communicate your goals to others. Tell people about your goals so they  know what you expect to accomplish and the time commitment required. They will be much more likely to support and encourage you when they have a good understanding of what you are trying to accomplish. When you share your goals with the right people, they will likely help you and won’t become an obstacle for your to complete your goals.

Are You A Great Leader If Your Organization Fails?

By Brandon W. Jones on April 4, 2012 0

Are you a great leader if your organization fails to meet expectations? Or if you aren’t meeting your goals, are you a great leader?

Carmelo Anthony and The Knicks

Today, the Wall Street Journal article Anthony: The Biggest (Playoff) Loser talked about Carmelo Anthony and his poor playoff performance. Carmelo Anthony traded to the New York Knicks NBA basketball team to bring a championship to New York.

Are You A Great Leader If Your Organization Fails?

The article states, “But considering the way Anthony’s teams have performed in the postseason, the Knicks would be lucky to even win a game.” It then explained that Anthony has played 50 career playoff games and has a record of 16-34. His winning percentage of .320 is “the worst of any player who has appeared in that many postseason games since 1991-92.” [Read more…] about Are You A Great Leader If Your Organization Fails?

Support From Friends and Family

By Brandon W. Jones on May 17, 2011 3

All leaders need to have a certain amount of support to be successful.  Without the support of friends, family, and coworkers, it is much harder to succeed.  Their support helps to buoy you up when life gets you down.  The support they give comes as they give encouragement and support through the hard times, as well as, the good times.

University of Nevada – Reno – Master’s of Business Administration

Through the entire MBA program I had complete support from my wife.  There were many times that I had to spend long hours at school and only saw her as I got home and got ready for bed.  She was always there to help me through the hard times by giving me encouragement and support.
