Hi friends! For you that are regular listeners of this podcast, you probably noticed that I didn’t have an episode last week. That was because I spent the last week and a half repairing, reflooring, and repainting my house.

Home Makeover

I want to share a story about that and how it relates to change through transformation. My wife and I bought that house as newly weds and we really loved it! We lived in the house for four years until I was promoted and moved to a different state. At that time, the housing market was near the bottom so renting it out was the only option.

Since that time, we’ve had two renters in it. The first renters were really good and took great care of it. The second renters were not good. They took decent care of it for the first two years. Then over the last year, they pretty much stopped taking care of the house. [Read more…] about Podcast Episode #68 — When to Change Through Transformation and a Complete Makeover

Lessons Learned From a Toxic Leader

Annie’s leadership journey started when she was 17 years old and her mom passed away from cancer. That led her to adopt a growth mindset. She began seeking new opportunities and challenges to honor her mom and make her proud.

Her senior year of high school she took pre-calculus and physics which led to a love of math and science. She went on to earn her BS in mathematics education and became a math teacher. From that tragedy, she learned that you can always find ways to grow from your experiences.

She began teaching high school math. Unfortunately, since it was during the economic downturn, the school had to let her go. [Read more…] about Podcast Episode #41 — Lessons Learned From a Toxic Leader with Annie Spano

How To Be the Transformational Leader - Successful

This is a guest post by Sarah Jacobs. She is writer and enjoys writing about a variety of leadership topics and the transformational leader.

Gone are the days when the workforce is viewed as some machine where the employees act as the parts that run it. In today’s modern workplace, businesses have changed from traditional management styles and have adopted innovative solutions that increase productivity and engagement of employees. Collaborative work is now the norm that empowers growth in employees.

As the lines between bosses and workers blur, a new approach to leadership has emerged. The transformational leader is more approachable and encourages team building and power sharing. They posses the ability to cause big changes by persuading the way their audience thinks. This causes behavioral changes that lead to the achievement of goals.

How To Be The Transformational Leader

This change in leadership to the transformational leader is a far cry from the traditional hierarchical system as it gives employees more recognition and ownership of their efforts. Below are some characteristics that set the transformational leader apart from their more traditional counterparts:

1. Hold Yourself Accountable

The transformational leader makes changes when they know how to practice personal accountability. Here’s questions from Marshall Goldsmith essential to holding yourself accountable:

  • Do I do my best to set clear goals and make progress to accomplish such goals?
  • Do I put in my best to find meaning and be happy with what I do?
  • Am I giving my best in building positive relationships and fully engaging in those relationships?

Leaders who know how to evaluate themselves are most often those that stand out to make a difference in their leadership. [Read more…] about How To Be The Transformational Leader

Make Yourself More Marketable

By Brandon W. Jones on November 21, 2014 0

When you are in a position where your skills under utilized, it is important that you make yourself more marketable. If you are under utilized, it is because others don’t know how to fully utilize your talents. In this post, I will explain some steps you can take to make yourself more marketable.

Why You Should Make Yourself More Marketable

Before getting into how to make yourself more marketable, it is important to understand why it is important to be marketable. I read a very interesting article about leadership transitions that occur within organizations.  The article Firms Recruit Sitting CFOs by Maxwell Murphy and Vipal Monga explained some of the trends that happen in leadership during the spring.  [Read more…] about Make Yourself More Marketable

Having A New Perspective On Leadership

By Brandon W. Jones on October 19, 2014 5

A little while back I had the privilege of attending the seminar Leadercast put on by Chick-Fil-A and Giant Impact.  There were many good speakers throughout the day that inspired me to be a better leader.  As with any type of seminar, there were a few of the speakers that really seemed to hit home for me.  One of those speakers was Andy Stanley.  He is a sought-after leadership communicator, author, pastor, and the founder of North Point Ministries, Inc.  One quote that is highlighted in his biography is, “The goal of leadership is not to eradicate uncertainty, but rather to navigate it.”

Andy spoke about changing your perspective to have a new perspective on leadership.  By changing your perspective, you will change your life.  I had a lot of thoughts come to me as I listened.  Below is a compilation of what I heard him say and the thoughts I had as I listened.

As a leader, you are not there because you are the smartest, best equipped, or most talented.  Leaders should not feel like they are better than others.  Leaders, in fact, are in their positions for a number of different reasons.  Some are there because they have been around the longest, they had the idea first, or because they had the right connections.
