For a large part of this new century, the concept of emotional intelligence was not very popular or discovered by many people. Slowly it became an entire science, where millions of dollars are invested upon to fund research and effective training programs, that can help develop strong emotional intelligence. So what exactly is this new concept, which has suddenly become so important for a leader who is aspiring and inspirational?
The concept of emotional intelligence means to understand and manage your emotions in such a way that they do not have a negative impact on you and to an extent managing or understanding the emotions of others around you. When you master this art you develop a lifestyle that is filled with compassion and gratitude, because you will not anything which can hurt someone or you will not let the emotions like anger take the better of you in tough situations.
Today’s inspirational leaders, if not in reality, at least pretend to be high in this factor of leadership traits. Our article today will aim to craft out three aspects and traits of emotional intelligence that are absolutely important for the leaders to develop.
Self-awareness and Mindfulness
Self-awareness is a quality that we lose over time when we get stuck in so much clutter of life around us. When we are not self-aware or mindful we tend to take things for granted and be indifferent to others around us, this is when good inspirational leaders get on the track to become selfish materialistic ones who are not inspiring at all. The intelligence of being self-aware is something that should come naturally to a leader.
Knowing who you are, what are your boundaries and your values will always keep you in check from straying away towards the negative influence around you. Values are something that not only define a great leader, but also his character, something that can and should never come into doubt.
Positive social skills
Social skills that have a positive impact on you and others around you, are another important element of emotional intelligence. Today the importance of communicating with others is much more than in the past, so such a trait is very crucial to any leader.
