Do you remember who your childhood heroes were? What did you like about them? What qualities did they have that made you look up to them? What did the heroes do to gain your trust or support? In today’s world everyone wants to have and be a hero.

Some Of My Heroes
When I think of my heroes I think of people like my parents, grandparents, Steve Young, Jerry Rice, Ronald Reagan, past leaders and coaches, etc. Each of these people played an important role in shaping me into who I am today.
Each was a hero for a different reason. Those that were close to me like my parents, grandparents, leaders, and coaches played a more personal role in my development. On the other hand, those famous heroes played a much different role.
Be the Hero
My heroes were great examples to me in one way or another. In order to be a hero, you must have strong character.
My parents were very consistent as I grew up. They were always there for me whether I was good or bad. They always showed love towards me even if I made bad decisions at times. They were consistent in their love for me. My athletic heroes were people of good character even when others were not. They stuck to their values even when it was a challenge. Ronald Reagan was a hero because he stood for freedom and would not back down even when it wasn’t always the most popular choice.
Think of the characteristics of your heroes and do all you can to emulate them. You may not be at the level that they are at now, but if you take steps in the right direction every day, you will be well on your way. The heroes that you have were made one step at a time. Most of them walked slowly in the right direction to get to where they are. It is the same with each of us as we walk in the right direction. I have always felt like you are always on a path and while on that path you are either walking forward or backwards towards becoming a better person.
In leadership, you impact the lives of many people on a daily basis. As a leader, you have the opportunity to become a hero to those you lead. Your actions for good or bad help people create an image of you. Who are some of your heroes and why are they your hero? Why is it important to you to be a hero? How can you be a hero to someone? Are you a Mormon?
Charlie,
Yes I am a Mormon.
My heroes were men and women who exemplified those qualities I wanted in myself. Leadership, trust, honesty, skills, intelligence, confidence, and compassion. My father, who put the welfare of his family before all else; my mother who sacrificed her time to make us the best, well rounded people possible; my grade school teacher Mr Chappelle who taught me what it takes to be a man and a human being; the many scientists that risked their lives and reputations on what they believed; and those brave, annonymous people who run into burning buildings and towards gunfire when others are running the other way.
Welcome Kevin,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I think there are so many people that do a lot for everyone. They are the true unsung heroes that you mention. The hardest thing that we have to do as leaders is emulate the traits that they teach us.
Hi Brandon, You are on your way too being one of my heros with the consistant humility and grace with which you share your intentions and visions. Thanks Dude. ( can a Mormon be a dude,’-)) With respect and fun William.
William,
Thank you for your kind words! I feel like I have come a long ways from where I started, but I still have a long ways to go to get to where I want to be. I really appreciate your support!
