The Power Of Social Media In Leadership

By Brandon W. Jones on October 25, 2014 5

Social media can have a big impact on you as a leader and those you lead. That impact can be positive or it can be negative depending on how you use it.

The Impact of Social Media on Leadership

In this post, I will share two stories on how social media impacted the lives of employees and leaders in the workplace.

Story #1

Today, I heard a story that is very applicable to leadership and blogging.  The story was about a person that decided to video himself harassing a restaurant employee as he went through the drive through.  He decided to do it to make a point about his personal feelings.   It had absolutely nothing to do with the service he received at the restaurant. New Strategic Approach For 2014

By Brandon W. Jones on January 6, 2014 0

New Strategic Approach for 2014

With the New Year upon us, many have new goals and a renewed sense of purpose. Here at Leadership Done Right, I also have goals for the New Year. My main goal is to take a more strategic approach to bring higher consistent value to you, the readers.

New Strategic Approach for 2014

In my post, Be Strategic in Your Posts, I explained three points for both why and how you should take a strategic approach to your website and/or business. One of the keys to following through on your strategic approach is to tell people about it. With that in mind, I am going to use this post to explain my strategic approach.

What is the new Strategic Approach?

1. Theme based strategic approach.

As I’ve posted on Leadership Done Right, I’ve written on a variety of topics related to leadership. Each post has covered a new topic and overall they have varied significantly from one week to the next.

Going forward, the posts will follow a theme-based approach focusing on the same topics for weeks at a time. This will enable me to expound more on the topics over a series of posts instead of just posting small bits of information at a time. [Read more…] about New Strategic Approach For 2014

Be Strategic in Your Posts

Be Strategic in Your Posts

Over the last two years I have gone back and forth on how I wrote posts for Leadership Done Right. Sometimes I have been really strategic, while other times I just posted whatever was on my mind. Through this process I have learned some valuable lessons. One lesson I learned is that it is very important to be strategic in your posts.

Why should you be strategic?

1. So your audience knows what to expect. When you are strategic, you choose specific themes and let your audience know when and why you will talk about them. They should also know what you will post about and how it will help them. It also lets them know when to expect a new post. This helps your audience stay in tune with what you will talk about.

2. To create value for your audience. People are not going to come to your website unless they learn something, gain a new insight, or receive some other value. When you are strategic, your purpose is to write quality posts for your audience. You write with value creation as your main theme. [Read more…] about Be Strategic in Your Posts

Connections Are King

By Brandon W. Jones on December 30, 2013 4

Connections Are King

Within the blogging world, there is a common saying that, “Content is King!” I believe, however, that this statement is not entirely true. Content is VERY important, but CONNECTIONS are King. You can have great content, but if you don’t have anyone coming to your website, the content will not be seen. This follows the old adage that it is not about what you know but who you know.

Connections Are King

Connections Are King

So why do I feel connections are king?

Connections are king because they consume and spread your content.  When I write a post on Leadership Done Right it can do really well or really poorly. If I share it with my friends, they read it and share it with their friends. If, however, I write a post and don’t share it with anyone, it usually doesn’t do well.  To give you an example, the posts that I share with my network get 90% more views than those that I just write and don’t share on my social networks.  Why is that? It is because once a post is shared, others share and spread the word about my post as well.

Connections are king because they give you recommendations and you listen. We hear ads and recommendations for all sorts of products, websites, etc. on the radio, TV, web, and through other forms of media.  How often do you take those recommendations? Well in most cases, you are probably slow to listen to them because you know they are just trying to sell you something. If, however, you receive a recommendation from one of your connections, you are much more likely to listen. [Read more…] about Connections Are King

Blog Writing For a Busy Audience

By Brandon W. Jones on March 14, 2013 3

Blog writing is a very common topic on the internet.  Many people have done well financially by starting a blog for themselves, their company, or a product they sell.  So what does it take to do well at blog writing?  What does it take to keep people reading your blog posts?  In a world with leaders blogging about leadership and other topics on a regular basis, how do you keep your blog relevant?  I have seen three suggestions to keep your blog relevant and help you to be successful at blog writing.

Blog writing for your audience

First, write great content!

The first key to successful blog writing is to produce great content.  Ask yourself the questions, “Of all the blogs out there, why does my blog stand out?  What is my niche?  How do I keep people coming back to read more?”  By asking these questions you will be able to define your target niche and target audience.  From there, your blog writing can be directed towards that specific audience so your content is very relevant to their needs.  Your content is king in getting people to come to your blog regularly.  When blog writing, it is important that you understand the topics you write about.

Be Prepared For The Worst

By Brandon W. Jones on March 7, 2013 2

A little while back I had an experience that taught me to be prepared for the worst. I went to work for the day after spending a lot of time the night before working on Leadership Done Right. At the time, I was beginning to get a lot of traffic on the site and things were really starting to pick up. Then midway through the afternoon, I received a text message from my wife asking me if I had done something to Leadership Done Right when I was home for lunch. I texted her back that I hadn’t done anything and asked her why she was asking. She had gone on the site to check some things out and found that all she got was a message that said, “Sorry! This site is not currently available.” She immediately thought that I had done something to this site.

Learn to be prepared for the worstWhen I got her message, I immediately went to the site and got the same message. I then tried to go in through the back door as an administrator and got a message saying that the site I was looking for did not exist. At that point I almost had a panic attack… Okay, not really, but I was very nervous because I heard a story a little while back about someone that had their website canceled by WordPress.com without receiving any message or warning. They didn’t even get an explanation for why their site was canceled.

In the back of my mind I was wondering if the same thing had happened to me. Was my site going to be canceled? Well, long story short, later this afternoon the site came back on board without me having to do anything. The only explanation I can think of is that there was some type of a glitch that temporarily shut down the website. [Read more…] about Be Prepared For The Worst
