4 Reasons Why Humility Is A Leadership Strength

By Brandon W. Jones on September 27, 2017 1

Why Humility Is A Leadership Strength

Hi, and welcome to the Leadership Done Right YouTube channel. One leadership quality that has become less and less popular is humility. People feel like in order to compete in the business world they have to be strong, competitive, and anything but humble. Humility is looked at, in many cases, as a weakness. I believe, however, that humility is a leadership strength.

Why Humility Is A Leadership Strength

Humility Is A Leadership Strength

I would like to suggest four reasons why humility is a leadership strength and not a weakness.

1. Humility is NOT Insecurity

Insecurity happens when you are not secure in yourself or your beliefs. You lack an understanding of your purpose or value. When you are humble, however, you are not insecure. You understand yourself, your beliefs, and the unique value you provide.

2. Understand Your Limitations

Every leader has limitations. When you are humble, you know what you can and can’t do. You also know that each person brings their own unique value to the table. When you are humble, you treat people with respect and dignity. Because you are humble and treat people with respect, you are able to get their support when needed. You are able to use their skills for the betterment of the group. [Read more…] about 4 Reasons Why Humility Is A Leadership Strength

Every leader goes through trials and challenges at some point in their leadership journey. They come in the form of getting your opportunity to be a leader, making positive change, or getting acceptance of those you lead. There are also many other instances where leadership if difficult and trials come. As we go through each challenge, we grow, learn, progress, and they make us a stronger leader.

3 Great Stories To Make You A Stronger Leader

In this episode, we are going to look at three different stories that help give you strength through the difficulties of leadership to become a stronger leader.

Story #1 — Trees Growing In Nature

In nature, trees that grow up in a windy environment become stronger. As winds whip around young saplings, forces inside the trees do two things. First, they stimulate the roots to grow faster and spread farther. Second, the forces in the tree start creating cell structures that actually make the trunk and branches thicker and more flexible to the pressure of the wind. These stronger roots and branches protect the tree from winds that are sure to return. (This is an excerpt from the speech, Spiritual Whirlwinds, by  Neil L. Andersen.)

Lessons From Trees

I like this because it is the same for leaders. As we go through challenging times, we gain experience that helps us in the future to be a stronger leader. We learn from the difficulties and become better leaders as a result.

Story #2 — Darren Hardy

In the Forbes article, How Speaking Skills Turned A Common Man Into An Uncommon Success, by Carmine Gallo, Carmine shares the following story of Darren Hardy. [Read more…] about Podcast Episode #16: 3 Great Stories To Make You A Stronger Leader

How To Implement Your Personal Development Plan?

Hi, and welcome to the Leadership Done Right YouTube channel! Whether you are trying to obtain your ideal life, become a highly successful leader, pick up a new skill, develop a new hobby, or improve in some other way, it is very important to have a personal development plan.

Quick Recap

This is the fourth and final video in the Personal Development Plan Series. Before we get too far into this video, let’s do a quick recap. At this point, you’ve watched videos 1-3, determined why you need a personal development plan, developed your personal development plan strategy, and determined how to implement your personal development plan.

Now, you are implementing your plan by following these six steps.

  1. Review/Create Your Goals
  2. Prioritize
  3. Set Deadlines
  4. Take Action
  5. Get a Mentor
  6. Monitor Your Progress and Reflect

I hope you are making great progress on your plan and everything is working nicely for you! I also hope you are having success and reaching your goals! So what now?

How To Implement Your Personal Development Plan?

5 Steps To Continuously Move Your Plan Forward

In this video, we are going to discuss five steps you can take, to continuously move your plan forward.

1. Make Your Personal Development Plan a Priority

Often corporations and large organizations spend a significant amount of time and money on their strategic plan to move the organization forward. The plan is often developed over weeks of meetings, retreats, and mid to senior level management focusing their own time to create the perfect strategy.

Once the strategic plan is completed, it is often a modern-day masterpiece that details exactly how the organization will move forward! But what often happens after that is quite discouraging to say the least. The strategic plan is created and then left on the desk, shelf, or some other location and never looked at again until the next powwow to create the next strategic plan. What a sad waste of time, energy, and effort! [Read more…] about 5 Steps To Continuously Move Your Personal Development Plan Forward

Devastation Before The Blessing

I recently heard a lady speak that said she married young. Not long after getting married, she started having kids and soon she had seven kids. What a big family! She was in the late stages of her eighth pregnancy when she found out that her husband had a debilitating disease. He went from being a normal active person to being only there physically but mentally in another place. It was such a devastation.

The disease took such a toll on his body that he went downhill extremely fast. They eventually had to put him into a nursing home and lost him not long after. So here this lady was, eight kids, and not much more education than a high school diploma. [Read more…] about Podcast Episode #9 – 4 Methods to Learn Today

Why You Need a Personal Development Plan

Whether you are trying to obtain your ideal life, become a highly successful leader, pick up a new skill, develop a new hobby, or improve in some other way, it is very important to have a personal development plan.

This is the first video in the personal development plan series. In this series, we will talk about:

  • Why you should have a personal development plan
  • How you can develop the strategy for your personal development plan

  • And, steps you can take to continuously move your plan forward.

In this video we will look at why you should have a personal development plan.

Why You Need a Personal Development Plan

So let’s talk about why you should have a personal development plan. Why do you think you should have a personal development plan? What is your goal or driving motivation?

Why You Need a Personal Development Plan

Well, here’s something to consider. Most people spend the majority of their first 18 years of life in some form of the public school system. From there, they often pursue some form of higher education. BUT, once they are done, then what?

For many people, that is the end of their education and personal development. That usually concludes when they are in their 20’s or early 30’s. From that point forward, many people work their jobs and only do training or development courses when they are required to by their employer or to keep a specific license or certification.
