Have you ever been in a situation where you felt you could do better, but were in an environment that made change extremely difficult? Or, have you been in a situation that wasn’t going in the direction you wanted? If so, you were probably in an environment where you needed a fresh start. Change creates an opportunity for a fresh start.

All these symptoms, and many others, of course, are a sign that you need to start fresh. To run again. To leave the old behind and embrace the new.”
What Is A Fresh Start?
A fresh start happens when you leave behind something old and start something new. You meet new people, have new experiences, and start something new. A fresh start brings new challenges and opportunities. It also stretches you in ways that you have never been stretched in the past. The fresh start can happen as a result of monumental or incremental change.
Making Monumental Change to Create a Fresh Start
There are many major changes you can make that will give you the opportunity for a fresh start. Some monumental changes are:
- Taking a new job and/or getting a promotion
- Moving to a new city
- Starting a new business
- Going back to school
- Joining/starting a club
- Changing your profession
- Getting married
Each change listed takes you away from your old environment and puts you into a new one. Some of the changes mentioned, however, are significantly bigger than others. Some take you out of one aspect of your life while others completely flip your world upside down. The largest changes take you away from all that you know to put you into a completely new environment. The smaller ones are still major changes, but they only take you away from one aspect of your life.
Getting a Fresh Start Incrementally
In addition to monumental change, there are incremental changes you can make to have a fresh start. Some incremental changes are:
- Start a pattern of reading good books
- Begin exercising regularly
- Cut back on what you eat
- Make time to learn something new each day
- Reorganize your schedule or work practices to be more effective
The incremental changes cause you to think or act differently over time. For example, someone that starts a pattern of reading books will gain knowledge over time. The more they put that knowledge to use, the more they can make informed choices.
With the incremental changes, the fresh start isn’t quite as dramatic as it is with monumental change. Using the above example, as you read, you acquire knowledge and act differently. Those changes help you look at the same “old” things in a new light with a new perspective. It changes how you see the world. The fresh start comes when your choices put you on better paths that open doors that previously didn’t exist.
Changes That Created My Fresh Start
Two years ago, my wife and I lived in Carson City, NV. I had worked there for almost four years and was very comfortable. I worked with great people and loved life. Unknown to me, there was a change and fresh start just around the corner. A new job came available in Victorville, CA so I applied for it, had an interview, and was offered the position. I knew that making the change would create a huge opportunity and bring a fresh start. Getting the job required my family and me to relocate. We had to make new friends, learn a new area, and get use to a new way of life. With that came many new blessings, opportunities, and challenges. Overall, however, it was an amazing fresh start that taught me new things and gave me new opportunities.
