How Do You Get Your News As The Leader? – Flipboard

By Brandon W. Jones on September 4, 2012 0

Have you heard of Flipboard before?  In today’s fast paced world, leadership is becoming more demanding than ever before. Leaders are expected to know what is going on all over the world across a wide variety of industries. They are also expected to be able to make quick decisions based on that knowledge to lead their organization into the right direction.

There are many ways that leaders can get this information. Some leaders have personal assistants that scour the news and then feed them the highlights while others have specific websites, blogs, news outlets, or smartphone apps they follow to get their insight into the world. With smartphones, as common as they are, there are more apps than ever for leaders to get the news.

I really like using my smartphone to get my news. With all the apps, what is a good app to use? My friend recommended a new app called Flipboard that is great for getting all the information you want. Flipboard has only been around for a short time, but it has a lot that it offers.

When you open Flipboard, you basically flip through each sheet to see whatever you want to see.  The app gives you whatever information you want.  You can link in your various social media profiles, get news updates, receive feeds from your favorite search terms, or get information from your Google reader or other reader program.  The two pictures below are print screens from my Flipboard app.

Once you click on one of the icons, it will show the view below.  From there, you flip through feeds within that subject.  It gives you as many feeds as are available at that given time.  For example, I have a blog reader that shows all the blogs I follow, and I have hundreds of feeds.  Today, I flipped through 50 blog posts on my blog reader, and it still had many feeds.  It was easy to go through so many.  What I like the most about using this app is that it has great pictures with information about each post.  It gives you a lot more information than just a title which is common on the reader programs.

I have been going through Flipboard quite a bit lately, and it has been a great way to get the many different feeds of information I follow.

Have you used Flipboard before?  What do you think about Flipboard?  How do you like it?  Are there other news apps that you like to use?  Please share your thoughts in the comments section below!
