Here Comes the Baby… Not Yet!

Many of you know that my wife is currently pregnant with our fourth child. My wife and I and our kids are very excited for the new addition to our family.

We are at the point right now where she is due any day. We live about 90 miles away from the hospital which is about an hour and a half drive once she starts labor. So, once she starts labor we have to head to the hospital so that we get there in time.

For any of you that have children, you probably remember the excitement and uncertainty that comes as you wait for the baby to come into the world. It is a fun time but also challenging with anxiety. We know the baby will come soon, but we don’t know when.

We are both planners that like to schedule everything. We plan our days, weeks, and months in advance both at work and at home. That makes the uncertainty all the more fun and challenging. To ease the uncertainty, we have taken several steps to prepare for the birth.

Types of Uncertainty

Now, since my wife is healthy and all the pregnancy health assessments and baby are healthy, we don’t have big concerns about birth defects or the health of my wife. Our uncertainty is mostly due to the timing of the baby’s birth. That uncertainty is exciting and even minimal when compared to the uncertainty that others go through. Many people have to deal with the uncertainly of illness, potential job-loss, natural disasters, or family afflictions.

Now, we’re going to take a quick break for our sponsors. After the break, we’re go over 5 tips to face  uncertainty.

5 Tips To Face Uncertainty With Confidence

Welcome back! Regardless of your type of uncertainty, I have five tips to help you face uncertainty with confidence.

  1. Focus on what’s in your control
    • When you have to face uncertainty, identify what is in your control and what is not. Then focus on doing what you can with what is in your control.
  1. Create your plan
    • Prepare to face uncertainty
    • Take action now
  1. Stay positive
    • Your attitude can control or escalate your uncertainty. Keeping a positive and happy attitude will help minimize the uncertainty.
  1. Think of the lessons
    • We can learn lessons from every situation in life. Think of all the lessons you can learn from each situation.
  1. Don’t procrastinate your preparation
    • The more you wait around to face uncertainty, the worse the uncertainty feels. Take steps NOW to prepare.
