Tip of the Week
Alright, as we are going into the summer, I want to share a small tip that can make all the difference in how each day goes for you. It’s a thought that was shared with me many years ago and it changed my outlook on life.
Everyday your attitude is a choice. Good and bad things will happen to you. Life is not always easy. You will likely experience difficult challenges. There will hopefully also be some wonderful great days ahead of you as well.
Through all that, no one can make you be happy, mad, sad, angry, or have any other emotion. How you feel and the choices you make are 100% within your control.
There are many stories out there of people that went through horrible experiences, and yet they are still positive, happy, and have great attitudes. There are others who’ve had lives full of happiness, love, and joy, but choose to be angry, grumpy or sad. The difference? It all comes down to attitude and choice.
I encourage you to live life to its fullest and make a positive impact on others. Be positive. Be happy. And, have a good attitude as you go through life. That choice is 100% within your control.
In today’s episode, we’ll discuss why you should surround yourself with great people, types of great people with which you can surround yourself, and how you can do that from a practical standpoint.
Why Surround Yourself With Great People?
Have you ever heard of the law of attraction? It says that what you think about, you attract. Therefore, if you think about good things, you attract good things. If you think about bad things, you attract bad things. It goes so far as to say that if you constantly think about gaining and obtaining wealth, you will achieve wealth.
This not only goes for your thoughts. The way you act and appear will also draw similar people to you.
Along those lines, you may notice that often, wealthy people hang around other wealthy people. Smart people hang around other smart people. Athletes hang around other athletes. People that walk in specific walks of life are around others in those similar walks of like.
The people you are around the most will shape you into the person you are. Do you remember parents or teachers that said be very careful in choosing your friends? The friends you choose impact the choices you make. Let me say that again. The friends you choose impact the choices you make.
There’s a common saying that you are the average of the five people with which you spend the most time.
Surround Yourself With Great People
Great leaders surround themselves with great people. They get great people to do many things for them. For example, some include:
- Subject matter experts to oversee groups or projects they either don’t have time to address or are outside their area of expertise
- Other team members on your work team
- Business/financial consultants to help them make good personal and business financial decisions
- Mentors/coaches that can help them learn and grow as a leader
- Good friends that will tell them what they need to hear to grow at the time they need to hear it
This list is just a small sample of the great people with which leaders surround themselves. The key is putting people in your life that will have a positive impact on you and help you to be your best self. If you are wanting to grow as a leader, it is very important to find and put people around you that will help you reach those goals.
How Can You Surround Yourself With Great People
Now that we’ve discussed the why and who, let’s look at how. How can you surround yourself with great people? There are a number of ways you can do that so here’s a list of a few ideas:
- Go to a conference and network
- Join an association
- Become an active participant on social media in professional or disciplined groups
- Join a local club
- Participate in a non-profit organization
- Reach out to people on LinkedIn
- Ask your friends about people they know
- Create a club and/or hold an event
Now, let’s do a quick recap! In today’s episode, we talked about:
- Tip of the Week: You can choose to be happy each day
- Why you should surround yourself with great people
- Types of great people with which you can surround yourself
- How you can do that from a practical standpoint.
