I Voted, Did You? – Choose Your New Leader

Each November, residents in the United States have the opportunity to vote on whom they want as their political leaders. This is a great opportunity to choose a new leader or confirm that you still want the existing leader. Even though the Leadership Done Right audience is growing to the point that the international audience is similar in size to the audience in the United States, there are important points to address as they relate to elections, voting, and choosing your leaders.

It is not uncommon to hear people say around election time that they don’t want to vote because their vote doesn’t count or they are insignificant. This is a bad attitude to have because of the following reasons:

1. Each vote counts towards the sum of the votes for each new leader or issue.

Make Your Choice Count

As everyone knows, today is the day of the presidential election in the United States Of America.  Everyone that is 18 years old or older has the opportunity to go out and vote.  By voting, each person can make their choice known.  They have their voice in what they want and don’t want in the government and in the policies for the future. 

This ability vote is very powerful because it allows you to actively make a choice on what your future brings.  By voting, you have to make a choice on what you do and don’t support.  If you choose not to vote, you are making the choice that no matter the outcome, you accept the consequences by not taking a stance.  When you vote, you make a choice beforehand on whether or not you are going to study the topics and become educated or just go with a guess based on a couple of advertisements you heard on the radio or saw on T.V.

Voting is a very important manifestation of your choice, however, there are many other aspects of your life where you make choices as well.  As a matter of fact, everyday you have hundreds of choices.  You must decide what you are going to wear, what you are going to eat, how fast you will drive to work, what route you will take, whether you will try for a new job or opportunity, etc. and the list goes on.  Some of the choices you make each day are very inconsequential while others have major impacts on the direction you go for the future. Doesn’t Everyone Want to Be Successful?

Over the last little while I have watched a lot of what has been going on in the republican primary elections. Each candidate has their own set of strengths and weaknesses. With this election, as is common with every other election, each candidate focuses on reasons why he/she is the best candidate for the position.Doesn’t Everyone Want to Be Successful?

One thing most candidates agree on is that America has always been known as a country where people come because they want to be successful. With that in mind, why are Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum saying that Mitt Romney is less qualified to be President of the United States because he was successful?

Successful Leadership

Great leadership is carried out when the leader brings out the best in people. All other things equal, the leader helps the entire group, company, or organization to be successful.

Leadership Lessons From the Iowa Caucus

As the Iowa caucus came to a close the results were so close that only eight votes separated the top two candidates.  It was the closest presidential GOP contest in U.S. history and Mitt Romney came out as the winner.  The close finish made me ask questions about what factors led to the resulting eight vote difference.  Because it is politics, there were many factors that led to a close finish, but I am going to look at just a few that relate to leadership.

Leadership Lessons From the Iowa Caucus

To understand the leadership implications, we must first look at the background.  In 2008, Mitt Romney was the runner-up in the Iowa republican caucus.  Since then, he has maintained a high level of support with relatively minimal effort.  Because of this support, he did a limited amount of campaigning until the last three weeks prior to the caucus.  On the other hand, Rick Santorum spent a lot of time and effort doing door-to-door campaigning.  Santorum had a lot of people on the ground representing him.   [Read more…] about Leadership Lessons From the Iowa Caucus
