The Collapse Of Nations – Leadership Fiduciary Responsibility

By Brandon W. Jones on November 15, 2012 1

Yesterday, I wrote a post about the fundamentals of leadership fiduciary responsibility.  I addressed that post mostly towards business and corporate leaders and what fiduciary responsibility they have.  As a leader, it is very important to take your fiduciary responsibility seriously because your organization will flourish or perish based on how you handle the money.  As a fiduciary leader in a corporate environment, you make major choices on how to spend money and where to make strategic investments.  In many cases, however, the money you spend is money from investors. The Collapse Of Nations - Leadership Fiduciary Responsibility

Additional Reasons To Have Fiduciary Responsibility

In addition to the business and corporate environment, there are many leaders in government (many times politicians or political leaders) that have a great fiduciary responsibility.  They regularly make major financial decisions that shape where their nations go in the future.  Sometimes one decision or a series of decisions over a short time frame can change the course of a nation for many years.  [Read more…] about The Collapse Of Nations – Leadership Fiduciary Responsibility

Your Leadership Responsibility

By Brandon W. Jones on July 6, 2012 0

The leadership quote below is one that I came across that impressed upon me the importance of leadership.

Each of us is responsible for the welfare and the growth and development of others. We do not live only unto ourselves. As we serve with diligence, as we lift and strengthen and build convictions in those lives we touch, we magnify our [leadership].  To live only unto ourselves, on the other hand, to [lead] grudgingly, to give less than our best effort to our duty, diminishes our [leadership] just as looking through the wrong lenses of binoculars reduces the image and makes more distant the object.

~ Gordon B. Hinckley

The leadership quote above is a very powerful.  It impresses upon all leaders the importance of being a great leader.  Leadership is a responsibility that all leaders must take seriously.  As a leader, you will influence and change the lives of others.  The little things you do on a daily basis ranging from how you treat others to the decisions you make, determine how others act, what they do, and how they respond to things in the future. How A Cost Benefit Analysis Will Save You Time

By Brandon W. Jones on January 30, 2012 0

If my life is anything like yours, you have many opportunities that come your way everyday. People will come into your office and/or send you emails requesting your help on everything you can imagine. Can you participate in this group? Can you help me with this project? Can you review this report? Can you take care of this responsibility? There are many other questions that come regularly. So how can you wade through all the requests and still complete your core responsibilities? I have just the solution for you.

How A Cost Benefit Analysis Will Save You Time

Even though many of the requests are for very important things that need to be done, you don’t personally have to fulfill all of them. You can delegate. When you delegate these requests or responsibilities to others, it is important to sift through them so you know what things you absolutely have to do yourself compared to what you can have others do for you. That is where the cost-benefit analysis is very useful. [Read more…] about How A Cost Benefit Analysis Will Save You Time

Leaders, Obtain And Keep The Right People: Part 2 of 3

By Brandon W. Jones on February 26, 2011 2

One major problem I have seen with the fire happy leaders is that they don’t properly train their employees. These leaders can’t keep the right people because they don’t give them the proper training from the very beginning and then they expect them to know more than they should. All the employees must be trained on the following:

1. The Company Policies and Procedures

In many of the large corporations that exist, there is a specific set of training sessions that every employee must go through when they are hired. As a part of the training session, HR or some other department reviews all the policies and procedures of the organization. This is very important because this training teaches the employees what they can and can’t do within the organization.

New Wine, Old Bottles

By Brandon W. Jones on April 11, 2010 0

New Wine Old Bottles - Stephen Covey

In the article “New Wine, Old Bottles”, Stephen R. Covey described three steps that must be taken for a leader to go from an authoritarian leader to a servant leader. First I will show the three steps and then I will explain my feelings about each step.New Wine Old Bottles - Stephen Covey

The three steps are:

  1. Build a new relationship – go from a vertical relationship to a horizontal one.
  2. Create a new psychological contract or performance agreement – be upfront with all expectations especially in the five areas mentioned.
  3. With the transfer of power and responsibility for results, the leader becomes the servant and a source of help.

In the article, Covey presented the different steps, but he didn’t give specific techniques for applying the steps. I will attempt to explain how to apply the three principles.

Step 1: Build a new relationship

This is a very valuable leadership technique. In the article, Covey presented the idea of going from a vertical to a horizontal relationship. I would like to suggest a few ways of applying this technique. First, it is very important to explain to the employees the roles of the leader as more of a guide and less of a judge. In explaining this role, it is essential to explain that there are certain consequences for specific behaviors. [Read more…] about New Wine, Old Bottles
