Hard WorkThere is nothing comparable to hard work when it comes to achieving success. It’s like success and hard work go well together. So if ever you’d like something in order to succeed in life, you can simply work hard. With this, you could certainly achieve your goal. However, please don’t forget that even if you would like to become successful when you work hard, it doesn’t mean that you feel successful instantly. There are times when the road to success is pretty long and hard which tests your desire and eagerness to push through.

When you work hard, you need to have the proper drive. Often times, people endure the problems of working hard based on their strong mental and physical motivation to get the job done. It takes strong mental toughness to endure that challenges that come before success. Your motivation must not be self-centered. If you only think of yourself, it will surely not be sufficient; you will definitely be unsuccessful in your effort and strength. Your motivation needs to be for the betterment of others like your friends, family, relatives and community. A lot of people fail to realize that it is better to draw strength from others than just think of your own personal success. [Read more…] about Beware of Hard Work, It May Bring Success

Work the Same as Always, Only Harder Didn’t Work for Me

By Brandon W. Jones on March 19, 2014 0

When change happens, many people take the approach that rather than adapt to the new way of doing things, they will just work the same as always, only harder. This approach may work for a short time, but it is not a feasible long-term solution to adjusting to change. If you continue to work the same as always, only harder rather than adapt to change, you will only cause burnout, pain, frustration, and/or anger for yourself and those around you.

Work the same as always, only harder didn’t work for me

Some time back, I went through a change where I got a new boss. My new boss and I didn’t always see eye to eye on things. He wanted to change the way everything was done before he understood why it was done that way. I, on the other hand, tried to do everything I knew how to do, but at a faster pace than I had done it in the past. I worked the same as always, only harder.

Work the same as always, only harderIt didn’t take long for me to be very worn out. This approach didn’t help me to see more eye to eye with my new boss and it didn’t lead to my success. It just made me frustrated, annoyed, and angry at times because things didn’t go my way. [Read more…] about Work the Same as Always, Only Harder Didn’t Work for Me

Set Habits For Success

By Brandon W. Jones on May 15, 2013 2

Most leaders desire success.  Success comes from a process.  That process is the sum of your habits.  Therefore, set habits for success.  Habits for success will change your way of living.  You can introduce habits for success into every aspect of life.  Michael Hyatt said in his post 7 Ways Successful Creatives Think Differently than Unsuccessful Ones, “Develop a winning mindset and cultivate the habits of successful thinking. This is what separates the best creatives from all others.”

Set Habits For Success

Over the past several years, many habits for success were built into my life by circumstance.  Recently, however, I intentionally created habits for success.  I started getting up at 5:15 AM everyday to study in the morning.  I started reading books other than textbooks regularly to activate my mind.  In addition, I started going to bed by 10:30 PM every night.  Each of these habits for success has improved my mental clarity and increased my knowledge. Hard Work: Become A Top Leader

By Brandon W. Jones on May 1, 2013 8

There are many strategies for becoming a top leader.  Each has one thing in common: Hard Work.  When you want to be a great leader, what is required? Hard work.  When you want to attain the vision, how can it be accomplished?  Hard work.  If you want to grow your company, what is the obstacle in your way?  Hard work.  You get the picture.  There is an old saying that, “There is no substitute for hard work.”  Everything in life that is worth obtaining requires hard work.

Hard Work: Become A Top Leader

I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat. ~ Sir Winston Churchill, May 13, 1940. Speeches That Changed The World: The Stories And Transcripts Of The Moments That Made History

I really like the quote by Sir Winston Churchill because he understood the value of hard work.  If you are a leader that wants to succeed, you probably understand and value hard work.  You know that the completion of your work  requires hard work, dedication, and a willingness to put forth all your effort to accomplish your goals. Looking Beyond the Mark

By Brandon W. Jones on April 2, 2013 0

As a leader, are you looking beyond the mark?  As leaders, we always try to be the best we can be.  We strive to get more with less.  As we focus on becoming better and doing more, it can be really easy to look for that which is bigger, faster, more efficient, etc.  When constantly looking forward to plan the future, it can be really easy to stop seeing and acting in the present.  If we look forward too much, it becomes very easy to look beyond the mark.

Are you looking beyond the mark?

I define looking beyond the mark as the times when you get distracted by the unimportant.  Those things can include your future that is out of your control, the accomplishments of others that don’t directly affect you, or any other aspect of life that distracts you from that which is most important to you.  Looking beyond the mark can lead to trouble.

It is good to set goals and work to achieve them on a regular basis, but it is important to not look too far into the future that you are beyond the mark.  I have seen many people get so far ahead of themselves that they stop preparing for that which they are currently working on.  They are focused on tomorrow, next week, next year, but not on the present.  They fail to be the best they can be in the moment.

Are you looking beyond the mark?

Looking beyond the mark can lead to serious trouble.  There are no shortcuts to become great.  You must work hard, be dedicated, and always do your very best.  Too often people focus on things that are beyond the mark and lose sight of the steps they must take to reach their goal. Why Complacency And Leadership Don’t Mix

By Brandon W. Jones on March 29, 2013 6

Several years ago, I had a great leader, G. Lawrence “Larry” Spackman, that taught me a valuable lesson about complacency.  He was very successful in everything he did and attributed his success to his strong drive and unrelenting desire to never back down when obtaining his goals.

When I was around Larry, he always stressed the importance of working hard and doing your very best.  In addition to teaching correct principles, he lived what he taught.  Because he was so driven, he despised complacency.  He taught that complacency would keep you from reaching your dreams and goals.  Larry taught me to avoid complacency at all cost.  His example confirmed the validity of what he told me.

Complacency and Leadership

As a leader, don’t let yourself become satisfied with average performance.  Never give less than your best effort because if you do, you will give way to complacency.  Complacency is very destructive and has many negative side effects.  There are three major side effects that come with a complacent attitude.
