Management’s Job Is To Make Life Easy

Management’s Job Is To Make Life Easy

When change comes up, some people think management is supposed to make life easy. They think that, “if management truly cares about me, they will make my workload easy and they will stop making me change.” They also have the attitude that if management doesn’t make life easy, they aren’t good management AND they don’t really care about their employees.

Management’s Job Is To Make Life EasyPeople that have this belief often get really upset when change happens. They feel that management has it out for them because they are bad management. This leads to feelings of anger, discontent, and frustration. As a result, they begin sharing their sentiments with others. They can become a poison to a group or company as they spread these same feelings to others.

When you are around people that have those feelings, it is important understand what is going on in their minds. There are two misunderstandings going through the mind of the person making the statement. Those misunderstandings relate to the following two questions:

What does it mean for management to truly care?

Management that truly cares wants you to be your very best. They want you to become a great person. Great management knows that for you to become a great person you need to go through trials, adversity, and change. [Read more…] about Management’s Job Is To Make Life Easy

Change in Leadership

By Brandon W. Jones on May 24, 2013 0

In the business world change is constant. The change that has the biggest effect on the employees is the change that involves management. Whether it is someone new to leadership or someone that has been in leadership for a long time, change is always a challenge within an organization. When a new leader comes into or is moved within an organization, they bring new rules, quirks, and viewpoints. Even though each leader has their own personality and leadership style, there are a few approaches that seem to be similar amongst many leaders. There are two approaches I have experienced in my career from many different leaders that seem to have a significant impact on the morale of the employees.

Change in Leadership

Micromanage the change

The first approach is that of the micromanager. The micromanagers have the tendency to jump into a new system and make it into their own without learning the existing system first. The National Federation of Independent Business explains a micromanager as, ” The micromanager is the manager who must personally make every decision, take a lead role in the performance of every significant task and, in extreme cases, dictate every small step the workers take.” They are change drivers. They take the approach that every system needs to be fixed, so they will fix it. These types of leaders have a hard time seeing the positive aspects of the existing system. From what I have seen, these leaders have a tendency to rub people wrong in the beginning. With time the subordinates get used to their new leader and their leadership style. Those who are under this type of leader, either learn to work with them or go on to different positions. [Read more…] about Change in Leadership

5 Great Leadership Posts For The Week

By Brandon W. Jones on April 17, 2013 6

This week there were many great leadership posts. It made it very difficult to decide which ones to highlight.  Because there were many great leadership posts, I selected leadership posts about different aspects of leadership.  I picked leadership posts about the people guided by a leader.  Some of the leadership posts discussed how leaders developed their followers to be the future leaders, while others focused on leaders asking their people the right questions.

8 Leadership Skills Essential for Success in the Future by Jesse Lyn Stoner

I don’t need a crystal ball to see what will be required of leaders in the future. All I need to do is look around.

Most of the companies I work with these days are multi-national – not because I am changing, but because companies are changing. They are expanding, becoming larger and more complex as they seek to establish a presence in new markets. [Read more…] about 5 Great Leadership Posts For The Week

Continue Learning And Be A Teachable Leader

Becoming A Teachable Manager

A Study On Learning

Recently, I read an article from the 1990’s era Harvard Business review titled Teaching Smart People How to Learn by Chris Argyris that focused on learning in a corporate environment. In the article, Chris explained that the smartest or most educated people within an organization are the hardest ones to teach within the corporate environment. He also explained that those same people, when put in the academic environment, are very teachable and are very good at learning.

Chris identified that, within the organizations, the leaders generally have the highest level of education. He found that many leaders, when asked to look within themselves for areas of improvement, were very reluctant. They, in turn, found faults and reasons for failure in others. Often, they stopped learning and began playing the blame game.

Understand the importance of continual learning

What Does The Study Mean Today?

Even though Chris Argyris wrote this article several years ago, there is still a lot that we can learn from it today. There are two reasons why educated leaders become less teachable in the corporate environment compared to the academic environment. [Read more…] about Continue Learning And Be A Teachable Leader
