Get to Know Jacob Baadsgaard

Hi friends! We have a special guest today. Our guest founded Disruptive Advertising in 2012 and has grown the company to over 120 employees and 17 million dollars in annual revenue in only 3.5 years. Disruptive Advertising helps businesses advertise profitably on Google and Facebook.

While most business leaders focus on personal financial gain, our guest reinvests a fair amount of his profits back into his employees and the community. He also develops employees with no experience into leadership roles within his company that earn six figure salaries.

He is a regular contributor on sites like Forbes, Entrepreneur, MarketingLand, Unbounce, KissMetrics as well as others.

Our guest today is Jacob Baadsgaard. Jacob, welcome to the show!

Jacob’s Why

While in the corporate world, Jacob realized that regardless of how much effort he gave his employer, he would not be compensated accordingly. He could put forth effort X and get paid X or he could put forth effort 10X and get paid X.1. There was a disconnect. His desire was to bridge that gap so there was more alignment.

Jacob also had a desire to lead and help others. He thrives on helping people work hard and then be compensated for their hard work. He decided to start his own business to help others and himself do just that. He attributes his success and the success of his organization to their ability to create an environment where people have a lot more influence and control of their direction and progression. Every leader goes through trials and challenges at some point in their leadership journey. They come in the form of getting your opportunity to be a leader, making positive change, or getting acceptance of those you lead. There are also many other instances where leadership if difficult and trials come. As we go through each challenge, we grow, learn, progress, and they make us a stronger leader.

3 Great Stories To Make You A Stronger Leader

In this episode, we are going to look at three different stories that help give you strength through the difficulties of leadership to become a stronger leader.

Story #1 — Trees Growing In Nature

In nature, trees that grow up in a windy environment become stronger. As winds whip around young saplings, forces inside the trees do two things. First, they stimulate the roots to grow faster and spread farther. Second, the forces in the tree start creating cell structures that actually make the trunk and branches thicker and more flexible to the pressure of the wind. These stronger roots and branches protect the tree from winds that are sure to return. (This is an excerpt from the speech, Spiritual Whirlwinds, by  Neil L. Andersen.)

Lessons From Trees

I like this because it is the same for leaders. As we go through challenging times, we gain experience that helps us in the future to be a stronger leader. We learn from the difficulties and become better leaders as a result.

Story #2 — Darren Hardy

In the Forbes article, How Speaking Skills Turned A Common Man Into An Uncommon Success, by Carmine Gallo, Carmine shares the following story of Darren Hardy. [Read more…] about Podcast Episode #16: 3 Great Stories To Make You A Stronger Leader

How To Implement Your Personal Development Plan?

By Brandon W. Jones on August 9, 2017 0

How To Implement Your Personal Development Plan

Hi, and welcome to the Leadership Done Right YouTube channel! Whether you are trying to obtain your ideal life, become a highly successful leader, pick up a new skill, develop a new hobby, or improve in some other way, it is very important to have and implement your personal development plan.

This is the third video in the Personal Development Plan Series. In this video, we are going to answer the question, “How Can You Implement Your Personal Development Plan?”

Quick Recap

Looking back at the previous two videos in this series, once you have identified your ideal overall health; your lifetime dreams, goals, and objectives; the details of your Personal Development Plan; and education and other training required to complete your plan, it is time to implement your personal development plan! So how do you do that?

Implement Your Personal Development Plan

In this video, we are going to discuss six steps you can take to implement your Personal Development Plan.

How To Implement Your Personal Development Plan

1. Review/Create Your Goals

Once you have you created your Personal Development Plan, it is time to turn the plan into action steps. The way to do that is to follow Step 1 by Reviewing and/or Creating Goals to go along with each point in the plan. Make sure the goals are SMART Goals and follow the proper goal-setting methodology as outlined in my goal-setting YouTube series. [Read more…] about How To Implement Your Personal Development Plan?

Help People Understand Change

By Brandon W. Jones on November 9, 2014 0

Why People Don't Change - Reason #1

Have you ever recommended a change you felt was VERY important and valuable, but got rejected? Or, recommended a change that could dramatically improve your business or drastically improve the lives of others and people didn’t listen? So why did they not listen to you or implement the change? Did they not like you? Was your idea weird and too far out there for people to accept?

People Don’t Understand Change

In most cases it probably wasn’t a personality conflict, personal dislikes, or even that the idea was too far out. They probably declined your change request with no idea of the significant positive difference it would make.

Why People Don't Change - Reason #1

They probably didn’t understand change or what change meant. When it came down to it, they probably didn’t want the change because they lacked understanding.

Leaders often try to implement change without helping people understand what the change means. They don’t fully explain it enough for people to understand the change and accept it.

When people are asked to change without understanding, they often fight the change. They fear the change will hurt them, their standing with the company, or cause some other negative effect in their lives. [Read more…] about Help People Understand Change

Now!! Get Your Projects Done On Time!

By Brandon W. Jones on October 20, 2014 0

“Today is the deadline!  You promised me that project would be done on time!  Why is this project late?”  “What are you going to do to get this job done now!?”  If you have heard these statements and questions as a leader, you are not alone.

Get Your Projects Done on Time

Leaders everywhere are trying to produce quality results on time and within budget.  In leadership, it is very important to get your desired results.  So how do you get your employees to produce the desired results?  It starts with two things.

First, you must properly explain the desired outcome at the start of the project.

In order to get the desired results, leaders must clearly explain their expectations.  They must also identify the scope of the project and give clear objectives.  In addition, the leader must let each person know what their specific responsibilities are and how their part fits into the entire project.  Once you, as the leader, show them the big picture, they will have a greater sense of purpose as they do their part.  In line with setting clear expectations, you must lay out the timeline, so everyone knows their due dates.  As a final step, you must hold each person responsible to do their part.  When they don’t do their part, you must follow through with the consequences. Relevant Goals: Are Yours Up To Date?

By Brandon W. Jones on October 13, 2014 0

Relevant Goals - Are Yours Up To Date?

If you are anything like me, you are a goal setter. You write down an extensive set of goals at the beginning of each year and have all the expectations of getting each goal accomplished. Then midway through the year your priorities have shifted and your goals are irrelevant. You may ask yourself, “Do I even remember my goals from the beginning of the year?”

Relevant Goals - Are Yours Up To Date?

If that is the case, then this is a great post for you. For goals to be important, they must be up-to-date and relevant. So how do you make sure they are relevant goals? The following five steps will help you to keep your goals on track.

1. Write Out Your Goals

One of my favorite quotes about goals is by Steve Maraboli. He said, ““If you have a goal, write it down. If you do not write it down, you do not have a goal – you have a wish.” When you set goals, it is important to write them down. Writing them down does two things for you. First, the act of writing or typing them out helps to cement them in your own mind. Second, when you write down your goals, they are recorded for you on paper so you can refer back to them in the future. [Read more…] about Relevant Goals: Are Yours Up To Date?
