Help People Understand Change

By Brandon W. Jones on November 9, 2014 0

Why People Don't Change - Reason #1

Have you ever recommended a change you felt was VERY important and valuable, but got rejected? Or, recommended a change that could dramatically improve your business or drastically improve the lives of others and people didn’t listen? So why did they not listen to you or implement the change? Did they not like you? Was your idea weird and too far out there for people to accept?

People Don’t Understand Change

In most cases it probably wasn’t a personality conflict, personal dislikes, or even that the idea was too far out. They probably declined your change request with no idea of the significant positive difference it would make.

Why People Don't Change - Reason #1

They probably didn’t understand change or what change meant. When it came down to it, they probably didn’t want the change because they lacked understanding.

Leaders often try to implement change without helping people understand what the change means. They don’t fully explain it enough for people to understand the change and accept it.

When people are asked to change without understanding, they often fight the change. They fear the change will hurt them, their standing with the company, or cause some other negative effect in their lives. [Read more…] about Help People Understand Change

You Can Succeed – Learn What It Takes

By Brandon W. Jones on November 7, 2014 0

For this week’s Friday quote, I would like to share a poem that I heard by a good friend of mine. I like the poem so much that I told my wife about it and she made it into a decorative saying and put it in a frame for me.

You Can Succeed - Be the Man

Be The Man

The MAN who decides what he wants to achieve
and works till his dreams all come true,

The MAN who will alter his course if he must
and BRAVELY begin something new.

The MAN who’s determined to MAKE his world better,
who’s willing to learn and to lead,

The MAN who keeps trying and doing his best
is the MAN who knows how to SUCCEED.

~Anonymous

You Can Succeed!

This poem is titled “Be The Man,” but it is just as applicable to women as it is to men. I really like this poem because it gives me courage to work hard, do my best, be willing to try new things, and set and obtain goals. [Read more…] about You Can Succeed – Learn What It Takes

10 Qualities An Organizational Leader Should Possess

10 Qualities of an Organizational Leader

An organizational leader is not just defined by his role or some high position in the company, but he is defined by his actions and the traits that he doesn’t only possess but also displays. If you also want to be a great leader – one who can win the hearts of his colleagues – take a look at the following qualities:

1. A Real Organizational Leader Is Honest

A real leader holds integrity, values, morals and trust for his people. An organizational leader who owns these qualities will always have the ability to make people feel good about their environment and their jobs. Remember that employees always prefer to work for leaders whom they can feel comfortable with.

2. A Real Organizational Leader Likes To Communicate

An organizational leader will not be able to make his people understand what he wants to talk about if he does not communicate with people. Employees are not just interested in following an organizational leader, but interested in knowing his goals and values, and communication is the key to doing that. A successful organizational leader has the art of communicating in a way that makes everyone around him stay happy and agree with him at all times. How to Climb the Corporate Ladder

By Brandon W. Jones on November 5, 2014 0

Recently, I had a lunch meeting with a friend that is an executive in a large organization. During the meeting we talked a lot about what it takes to climb the corporate ladder. He is very successful in his organization and has gained success through many years of hard work. Because of his success, I really wanted to learn how to climb the corporate ladder from him and his experience.

Climb the Corporate Ladder

In the corporate environment, one of the biggest challenges is figuring out how to be noticed by upper management. Many people think that upper management is on a level that is unattainable. Even though they are on a very high level within the organization, most of them started out at or close to an entry level position. That was the case with my friend.

How to Climb the Corporate Ladder

In the remainder of the post, I will explain the top two points he explained as the important for him to climb the corporate ladder.

Feedback

Feedback is a key to climb the corporate ladder. You must regularly find your blind spots that keep you from being successful. Getting feedback helps you learn your weaknesses and improve. I dedicated a whole blog to feedback, so I won’t spend as much time on it in this post. Bottom line; know that feedback is a key to climb the corporate ladder. Do You Ask For Constructive Feedback?

By Brandon W. Jones on November 4, 2014 4

About two years ago I had the unique opportunity of going to lunch with one of the vice presidents of my corporation. She was very successful, and earned her success very quickly. She was in her mid 30’s and most other VP’s are in their late 40’s to early 50’s. I was very curious to know how she was so successful so quickly. When I asked her what the key to her success was, she said it was constructive feedback.

So what is feedback? The definition of feedback on dictionary.com is, “evaluative information derived from such a reaction or response.” When I think of constructive feedback, I think of the critiques I have received from those around me. I have had experiences where people have told me what I was doing wrong so that I could improve. I have also had experiences where I was told that the things I did worked, and I should continue to do the same.

So in the corporate world, who should you ask for constructive feedback? I would recommend you obtain the following four types of constructive feedback.

Constructive Feedback from those you lead

Those you lead see you differently than everyone else. They see your flaws and strengths as a leader from a follower perspective. In many cases, you are not the first leader they have had and you probably won’t be the last leader they will have. They have seen how the previous leader handled situations, and they now see how you lead. They can recognize the good and the bad of how you lead. I Voted, Did You? – Choose Your New Leader

By Brandon W. Jones on November 2, 2014 0

I Voted, Did You? – Choose Your New Leader

Each November, residents in the United States have the opportunity to vote on whom they want as their political leaders. This is a great opportunity to choose a new leader or confirm that you still want the existing leader. Even though the Leadership Done Right audience is growing to the point that the international audience is similar in size to the audience in the United States, there are important points to address as they relate to elections, voting, and choosing your leaders.

I Voted, Did You? – Choose Your New Leader

It is not uncommon to hear people say around election time that they don’t want to vote because their vote doesn’t count or they are insignificant. This is a bad attitude to have because of the following reasons:

1. Each vote counts towards the sum of the votes for each new leader or issue.

No one candidate is elected just by one vote, but they are elected by many votes. Your vote may only be one vote, but if you don’t vote you are giving your freedom to other people. You are allowing them to choose on your behalf. [Read more…] about I Voted, Did You? – Choose Your New Leader

Life Reflection – How Shall I Live?

By Brandon W. Jones on November 1, 2014 0

How shall I live

When I was in the MBA program at the University of Nevada-Reno, I had to do a write-up for one of my MBA classes.  The teacher asked the students to look at their lives and analyze the way they were living their lives.  After evaluating their lives he requested that they answer the question, “How shall I live?”

How shall I live

How Shall I Live?

In thinking about how shall I live, it was very important to think about what matters most.  In my life there are three driving forces cause me to do what I do. They are outlined below. Each of the three driving forces on my behavior has an influence in my everyday life. [Read more…] about Life Reflection – How Shall I Live?

Keeping Perspective When Making Decisions

By Brandon W. Jones on October 31, 2014 1

Keeping Perspective When Making Decisions

There are certain mortal moments and minutes that matter – certain hinge points in the history of each human. Some seconds are so decisive they shrink the soul, while other seconds are spent so as to stretch the soul.

~Neal A. Maxwell

I really like this quote because it really helps to keep things in perspective and consider the big picture when making decisions. There are certain moments in life that are turning points in life.

Keeping Perspective When Making Decisions

When you are making decisions in the important moments of life, keep the long lasting impact in mind. If you succeed in those moments, the rest of your life will be improved. If you fail in that moment, however, it can have a long lasting negative impact on your life.

In order to keep the long-term impact in mind when making decisions, here are some important questions to consider. [Read more…] about Keeping Perspective When Making Decisions

What is Success to You?

What is Success to You?

This is a guest post by Mark Lee. He is an expert entrepreneur. He is a writer and blogger at Dissertation Help Love. His writes about self-motivation, leadership, management and business.

What is Success to You?

It’s a common practice to consult a dictionary when we need to know the meaning of a word in depth or in detail for better understanding. In many of the top dictionaries the meaning of success is slightly different. However, the commonality in each is that success is the “Achievement” of something wanted. The desire and wish of getting this success throughout the world is the same. It is certain that we all hunger to be successful in our life. However, the meaning of success is slightly diverse for every one of us.

General Perception of Success to You

To a few, achievement implies a decent paying employment, pleasant home, decent auto and all the material things to make them feel great. Others think it is getting something and feeling fulfilled by what life brings to the table. Where you are located geographically is a major part of your life and how you view things. Achievement has distinctive implications. It could mean fulfilling the errand of riding a bike, getting a driver’s permit, planting a vegetable farm, completing university, etc. [Read more…] about What is Success to You?
