By Brandon W. Jones on November 27, 2014 0

In leadership, you have limited resources.  You have a limited supply of time, capital, and human resources.   Because you have limited resources, it is very important to effectively use your resources.  You should not pursue what you consider a less effective use of time, capital, or human resources.  It is important to identify what is and is not worth your limited resources.

The Effective Use Of Limited Resources

Five Questions To Determine How To Use Limited Resources

Processes develop and change over time.  As a leader, look closely at your organization to identify how to most effectively use your limited resources.  The following five questions will help you identify what needs resources and what does not.

1. What is your core business?  You company probably has a core business.  Identify your core business.  Do you serve people or create widgets?  Then identify which processes support the core business and which ones do not.  If the process does not support the core business, determine if it is worth having.  With limited resources, identify the key processes that support the core business.   [Read more…] about The Effective Use Of Limited Resources

Surround Yourself With Great Leaders

By Brandon W. Jones on November 26, 2014 5

Have you been the leader over people you felt were extremely capable?  What effect did they have on you?  As the leader, it is in your best interest to surround yourself with great leaders.  If you do so, they will drive you to be better.  They will help you be your best self.  They will also ask you the questions others are afraid to ask.

Great Leaders at PepsiCo

The Wall Street Journal had an article that focused on Pepsi’s move to surround the CEO with outstanding leaders.  The article was titled, PepsiCo Positions Top Officials by Mike Esterl and Joann S. Lublin.  The article highlighted two big moves made by PepsiCo.  Pepsi is surrounding the Chairman and Chief Executive, Indra Nooyi, with two great leaders.  Pepsi brought in the former senior Wal-Mart Stores Inc. executive Brian Cornell as the head of one of Pepsi’s largest and most profitable units.  In addition, the longtime company executive John Compton was promoted to President of the company. 6 Proven Ways to Boost Up Employee Morale

This is a guest post by Jennifer Bradshaw. She is an academic consultant and an assignment writer by profession. She helps students who feel difficulty in choosing the right field in university to get a good career start.

6 Proven Ways to Boost Up Employee Morale

Take any successful company in the world and think if they can survive without employees. Your answer will be, “A company can’t do anything without employees let alone thrive and succeed.” You are 100% correct. Employees are the ones who help organizations achieve their goals. Hence, it is critical to keep their morale up. Low employee morale will result in a lot of bad things such as unfriendly environment, low productivity, poor cooperation, and eventually the company will not be able to achieve its desired goals.

What You Can Do To Boost Employee Morale

Since employee morale plays a critical role in building or destroying a company, successful leaders never overlook this aspect and do their best to make it better and stronger.

It’s interesting to note that it doesn’t really take much to boost employee morale. Here are a few powerful ways to improve your employee morale easily and effectively:

1. Provide Your Employees with Proper Equipment

It can be very disturbing for your employees if their equipment doesn’t work properly. If a computer requires more speed, or if the fax machine or photocopier is not working, then it’s best to fix the problem as soon as possible. If your employees have to spend a lot of time online, then make sure that they have fast internet connection because slow speed will annoy them and they will lose interest. I don’t have any concrete statistics to back this up, but I would suggest that personal health is strongly neglected in leadership. On a personal level, I have seen leaders forget to care for their own health and well-being. As the leader, you must take care of yourself before you can help others. So what do you do to take care of yourself? There are five areas to consider.

Mental Health

Mental Health

Medline Plus explains that, “Mental health is how we think, feel and act as we cope with life. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices. Like physical health, mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.” Be sure that you have a strong support group to maintain your mental health and also take time for yourself. Better Leadership Through Social Media

By Brandon W. Jones on November 23, 2014 3

As a leader, how do you feel about social media? Do you use social media? What do you see as advantages or disadvantages of social media?

I once heard the president of a large corporation say that social media is bad and that you should avoid it like the plague. He went on to say that nothing good will come from your involvement in social media. I felt like this viewpoint came from limited knowledge about social media and its benefits.

The Wall Street Journal article Better Leadership Through Social Media by Alexandra Samuel highlights six things leaders can do with social media to make life easier. They are:

1. Create a Leadership Dashboard – “Don’t just monitor the Web for intelligence about your business and brand; mine it for ideas, news and research that will help you develop as a leader.” [Read more…] about Better Leadership Through Social Media

Lots of job seekers are working hard to prepare themselves for answering the interview questions. On the other side, job seekers often forget to ask the questions from the employer at the time of interview. In this article, we will discuss important questions that you should ask from the employer.

Ask questions about skills and experience

At the time of asking questions from the interviewer, you must ask first the required skills and experience regarding a particular opportunity. This is a good question in which you can clearly understand the job description for a specific vacancy. If the interviewer wants those skills and qualities that you are not able to do, then you should tell them. You don’t want to put yourself in a position where you are in over your head.
