Hello and Happy New Year! I hope each of you are having a great start to 2019! 2018 want to wish each of you a very happy New Year! 2018 is going to be the best year yet!

With the new year upon us, now is the best time to set and/or refresh your goals, but regardless of when you listen to this episode it is always a good time to set and work towards completing your goals.

In last week’s episode, I talked about setting goals using SMART goals. I also talked about creating a plan and 5 Keys to creating an effective plan. In this episode, I am going to discuss 10 reasons why people fail to complete their goals and 5 steps to ensure your goals are successful.

10 Reasons People Fail To Complete their Goals

Have you ever been discouraged when working on a goal? Have you ever failed to complete a goal? Or, have you started working on a goal and lost your way? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are not alone. Many people lose their way on goals. In fact, here’s10 reasons why people fail to complete their goals.

1. Not a Strong Enough Why

People fail to complete their goals when they don’t have a strong enough WHY. When you set a goal, it must have a strong motivating WHY. Too often people set a goal because it sounds cool or fun, but they don’t have a reason why it is important. Michael Hyatt often says, “When you lose your WHY, you lose your way!” It is very easy for a goal to fall apart or be forgotten when you forget your WHY.

The WHY must be strong enough to motivate you through good times and bad. And, when you are busy and times are challenging. If the WHY will not keep you motivated, then don’t set the goal. Without a strong WHY, the goal will likely fail, which will lead to frustration and discouragement.

Sneak Peek

Last week I explained the Top 10 Causes of Leadership Failure. In creating that list, I put out a request on Facebook and received an abundance of reasons why leaders fail. So, this week I am going to share an encore to last week’s list with 10 additional reasons why leaders fail. But first…

10 Reasons Why Leaders Fail

Alright, now we’ll discuss the 10 Reasons Why Leaders Fail. I really like learning why others failed, so I don’t have to make the same mistakes myself. So let’s consider these 10 reasons with that mindset. Unlike last week, these are not in any particular order.

1. Poor Leadership Approach

Number one, leaders fail when they have a poor leadership approach. This can be manifest in many ways.

One way is that leaders sometimes use fear tactics. They try to coerce people through intimidation, manipulation, or overbearance. The whole point being to scare people into doing what they want.

Another poor leadership approach is to become a leader strictly to gain power over others. If you are leading just for power, you are probably not leading the right way.

And one final poor leadership approach is to lead with no confidence, rudeness, insincerity, or just flat out in a way that you show everyone you don’t know what you are doing. That quickly loses everyone’s confidence, and often even causes resentment. [Read more…] about Podcast Episode #50 — 10 Reasons Why Leaders Fail

A few weeks ago in episode 38, I talked about the importance of coaching and  different people that have had coaches. I also talked about what coaching is and what it is not. Today, we’re going to talk about 10 Reasons Why You Need to Hire a Coach.

I want to start off by sharing an audio clip from Tony Robbins.

10 Reasons Why You Need to Hire a Coach

Getting a coach will help you take your career and life to the next level!

1. Get Clear About Your Goals

If you are anything like me, there’s probably been a time or two where you had a lot on your mind and it was hard to sort it all out. You may have had leaders wanting you to do one thing while others were encouraging you to do something completely different. In cases like these coaching is invaluable. Your coach can help you determine what’s really important to you and help you stay focused on that. [Read more…] about Podcast Episode #40 — 10 Reasons Why You Need to Hire a Coach!

Gone are the days when the workforce is viewed as some machine where the employees act as the parts that run it. In today’s modern workplace, businesses have changed from traditional management styles and have adopted innovative solutions that increase productivity and engagement of employees. Collaborative work is now the norm that empowers growth in employees.

As the lines between bosses and workers blur, a new approach to leadership has emerged. The transformational leader is more approachable and encourages team building and power sharing. They posses the ability to cause big changes by persuading the way their audience thinks. This causes behavioral changes that lead to the achievement of goals.

How To Be The Transformational Leader

This change in leadership to the transformational leader is a far cry from the traditional hierarchical system as it gives employees more recognition and ownership of their efforts. Below are some characteristics that set the transformational leader apart from their more traditional counterparts:

1. Hold Yourself Accountable

The transformational leader makes changes when they know how to practice personal accountability. Here’s questions from Marshall Goldsmith essential to holding yourself accountable:

  • Do I do my best to set clear goals and make progress to accomplish such goals?
  • Do I put in my best to find meaning and be happy with what I do?
  • Am I giving my best in building positive relationships and fully engaging in those relationships?

Leaders who know how to evaluate themselves are most often those that stand out to make a difference in their leadership. [Read more…] about How To Be The Transformational Leader

This is a guest post by Elena Erin. Elena is a professional blog writer, and loves to share his ideas related to leadership, management, and employees. She is currently associated with Essay Yard. His write-ups intend to facilitate people with a deep insight regarding massive resources and concepts available to make good leadership styles.

Five Effective Leadership StylesA good and effective leader must always decode its entire internal and external environment. It gives each team member the opportunity to share. It addresses the individual needs of each team member and the needs of the team as a whole. The leader considers the resources and energy available. It also assists his team to set and attain common goals. They must also understand that each person has different motivations in different situations.

A leader promotes the possible participation and lets everybody to flourish and benefit from teamwork.

Decision Making with Accountability

One of the main activities of the leader is to promote interactive and meaningful participation often through teamwork. The leader looks at the future easily and transmits its vision to accomplish goals. He knows how to motivate; guide and support his team members through effective strategies, although difficulties or obstacles arise.

Being a good leader does not activate, mobilise or organise people by force. It is rather to count on its capability of persuading elements that are rational and emotional as well. The necessary decisions are taken by a leader and then implemented after consulting his team. More team members can participate in the process of decision making, the more they will be motivated. This will also develop a healthy climate, foster a sense of unity and make better decisions. [Read more…] about The Good And Effective Leader
