Leadership Done Right – What’s Coming Up?

Over the last month or so, I have constantly been thinking about what I could do to make Leadership Done Right better.  I have noticed that although I have received a lot of traffic, there is significant room for improvement.  I am very happy with the growth, but I am not satisfied with where it is yet.

I could do a better job creating an environment for more conversation.  These things have really made me think a lot about what I should do to improve Leadership Done Right.  I have come up with a few things I feel will help increase the traffic to the blog.

Fewer Posts, Better Content

Over the past two months, I have written and published a new post everyday.  This has helped develop a foundation for Leadership Done Right.  At the same time, because of the limited time in between posts, it has been very challenging to put together great posts every time.

As much as I try to write quality posts every time, I definitely have room for improvement.  Going forward, I will be reducing the number of posts a week to increase the quality.  Rather than post everyday, I will try to post three to five times a week.  On days that I don’t post, I will either respond to comments or do research for future posts.

More Conversation

In addition to writing and publishing posts here on my Leadership Done Right, I publish links to each post on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Pinterest.  The posts on these other platforms has generated a lot of conversation.  While I have done a pretty good job responding to comments here on Leadership Done Right, but I have not been able to respond to all the conversations on the other platforms.

I fear that by not responding to comments, I may unintentionally be turning people away from Leadership Done Right.  By reducing the number of posts, I will have more time to respond to questions and comments. [Read more…] about Leadership Done Right – What’s Coming Up?

The other day I did a post called Overcoming The Leadership Blogging Challenges.  The post was based on the question:

Brandon, I liked the article. However, I’d like to know how you overcame the difficulty to be a consistent blogger. Hearing your personal experience relative to the topic is like a breath of fresh air and sets your blogs apart from the rest. What problems did you face when starting out this webpage/blog? Did you have to do a little self “reprogramming” to be consistent? Were there any tools you used that helped? Thanks.

In my previous response, I only addressed the challenges of being a consistent blogger.

What problems did you face when starting out this webpage/blog?  Were there any tools you used that helped?

When I started out my blog I faced many challenges.  Before I started writing posts on my blog, I decided I would set up a framework.  This helped me to know exactly what I should do to be successful.  There were three areas that I set up my framework.  They were the following:

1. A framework for my post material.

From the very beginning I decided I would focus on leadership.  That focus would be divided into five topics: leadership in the news, leadership theory, great leadership blog posts from other bloggers (Top 5 Weekly Leadership Blog Posts), and weekly wrap up of Leadership Done Right posts.  Each of the topics would allow me to address a different aspect of leadership. Overcoming The Leadership Blogging Challenges

Recently, I received a comment on one of my blog posts asking for some insight on how I started out as a blogger. The question went as follows:

Brandon, I liked the article. However, I’d like to know how you overcame the blogging challenges to be a consistent blogger. Hearing your personal experience relative to the topic is like a breath of fresh air and sets your blogs apart from the rest. What problems did you face when starting out this webpage/blog? Did you have to do a little self “reprogramming” to be consistent? Were there any tools you used that helped? Thanks.

He brought up some very important questions that each blogger must ask him/herself when they start out blogging. If you want to be an avid blogger and gain a following, you must know how to answer the questions he asked. When you first start out blogging, there are many challenges you will encounter. If you want to be a blogger, you must set your goals before you even start so you know the direction you plan to go.

How do you overcome blogging challenges to become a consistent blogger?

I have been blogging for the past two years off and on. I started out blogging when I was in the MBA program at the University of Nevada – Reno. At that time, I had to blog for a class I took from Bret L. Simmons. The blogs we wrote were responses to case studies and articles we read.

I posted blog posts as often as we were required to in the class. By the end of the class I had gotten a few followers for my blog. I then felt obligated to continue blogging. I wasn’t very consistent at that time though. The Power of Blogging in Leadership!

To be a good leader, you must have conviction in what you want to do and the stance you take on different issues. In many cases, beginning leaders don’t have strong convictions because they are new to leadership.  Those convictions develop over time through trial and error, or as they study examples from other leaders.

Blogging In Leadership

Writing down your thoughts can also be very beneficial in the development of your convictions. A blog is a perfect platform for this. The following video helps explain the power of blogging in leadership when developing your convictions.

Clarity of Thought

As you blog, you will develop your own thoughts on how to handle different situations. Blogging will force you to take a stance on the topics you write about. As my blog post the other day about life’s transitions stated, I have been out of the blogosphere for the last little while because of a job transfer. It is very interesting how everything came about.

My Experience

Have you ever had an experience that you felt happened because it was meant to happen that way? That is exactly what happened with my recent job transfer. Leading up to my new position I had gone through a number of set backs. I had applied for three other supervisor positions in my company but was not the successful candidate. At that point I was beginning to get discouraged. After earning my MBA, I was hoping to progress to the next level.

In August 2011, I noticed that another new supervisor position had been posted. After applying for three other positions in a short time and not being the successful candidate, I wasn’t sure I wanted to apply again right away. The time I spent applying for the other positions was hard on my family and myself because from one week to the next we didn’t know if we were going to be moving or not. After thinking about the new supervisor job until the last day it was open, I finally decided I would apply because I felt a strong feeling telling me to apply.
