Down With The Drones…

The Wall Street Journal article Bold Eagles: Angry Birds Are Ripping $80,000 Drones Out of the Sky by Mike Cherney was recently published and really stuck out to me. It said, “Daniel Parfitt thought he’d found the perfect drone for a two-day mapping job in a remote patch of the Australian Outback. The roughly $80,000 machine had a wingspan of 7 feet and resembled a stealth bomber.

There was just one problem. His machine raised the hackles of one prominent local resident: a wedge-tailed eagle.

Swooping down from above, the eagle used its talons to punch a hole in the carbon fiber and Kevlar fuselage of Mr. Parfitt’s drone, which lost control and plummeted to the ground.

“I had 15 minutes to go on my last flight on my last day, and one of these wedge-tailed eagles just dive-bombed the drone and punched it out of the sky,” said Mr. Parfitt, who believed the drone was too big for a bird to damage. “It ended up being a pile of splinters.” [Read more…] about Podcast Episode #18 — 5 Leadership Detractors And How To Avoid Them

Here Comes the Baby… Not Yet!

Many of you know that my wife is currently pregnant with our fourth child. My wife and I and our kids are very excited for the new addition to our family.

We are at the point right now where she is due any day. We live about 90 miles away from the hospital which is about an hour and a half drive once she starts labor. So, once she starts labor we have to head to the hospital so that we get there in time.

For any of you that have children, you probably remember the excitement and uncertainty that comes as you wait for the baby to come into the world. It is a fun time but also challenging with anxiety. We know the baby will come soon, but we don’t know when.

We are both planners that like to schedule everything. We plan our days, weeks, and months in advance both at work and at home. That makes the uncertainty all the more fun and challenging. To ease the uncertainty, we have taken several steps to prepare for the birth.

Types of Uncertainty

Now, since my wife is healthy and all the pregnancy health assessments and baby are healthy, we don’t have big concerns about birth defects or the health of my wife. Our uncertainty is mostly due to the timing of the baby’s birth. That uncertainty is exciting and even minimal when compared to the uncertainty that others go through. Many people have to deal with the uncertainly of illness, potential job-loss, natural disasters, or family afflictions. Create Your Personal Development Plan Strategy

Hi, and welcome to the Leadership Done Right YouTube channel! In this video, we are going to answer the question, “How can YOU develop the strategy for your personal development plan?”

As mentioned in the last video, whether you are trying to obtain your ideal life, become a highly successful leader, pick up a new skill, develop a new hobby, or improve in some other way, it is very important that you have a personal development plan.

Develop Your Personal Development Plan Strategy

Develop Your Personal Development Plan Strategy

So let’s talk about how you can develop a strategy for your personal development plan. Before anything else, it’s important to understand that your personal development plan is an active living, breathing, and changing plan. It can and should change from year to year. Once this is understood, consider the following.

When you develop your strategy, identify what you want out of life. What does your ideal life look like? What short, medium, and long-term goals will help you obtain your ideal life? By thinking about these questions, you can create a personal development plan that helps you get from where you are NOW, to where you want to be. The Lightbulb Catastrophe

The Story of the Lightbulb Catastrophe

I recently heard the following story related by Dieter F. Uchtdorf who is a retired airline executive. On a dark December night 36 years ago, a Lockheed 1011 jumbo jet crashed into the Florida Everglades, killing over 100 people. This terrible accident was one of the deadliest crashes in the history of the United States.

A curious thing about this accident is that all vital parts and systems of the airplane were functioning perfectly—the plane could have easily landed safely at its destination in Miami, only 20 miles (32km) away.

During the final approach, however, the crew noticed that one green light had failed to illuminate—a light that indicates whether or not the nose landing gear has extended successfully. The pilots discontinued the approach, set the aircraft into a circling holding pattern over the pitch-black Everglades, and turned their attention toward investigating the problem. How You Can Be An Intentional Leader

Intentional leaders look at life differently than the average person. They realize that success and progress don’t just happen by chance. They happen as a direct result of actions. Therefore, intentional leaders conscientiously choose what they will do with their time and energy.

Why You Need a Personal Development Plan

Whether you are trying to obtain your ideal life, become a highly successful leader, pick up a new skill, develop a new hobby, or improve in some other way, it is very important to have a personal development plan.

This is the first video in the personal development plan series. In this series, we will talk about:

  • Why you should have a personal development plan
  • How you can develop the strategy for your personal development plan
  • How you can implement your plan
  • And, steps you can take to continuously move your plan forward.

In this video we will look at why you should have a personal development plan.

Why You Need a Personal Development Plan

So let’s talk about why you should have a personal development plan. Why do you think you should have a personal development plan? What is your goal or driving motivation?

Why You Need a Personal Development Plan

Well, here’s something to consider. Most people spend the majority of their first 18 years of life in some form of the public school system. From there, they often pursue some form of higher education. BUT, once they are done, then what?

For many people, that is the end of their education and personal development. That usually concludes when they are in their 20’s or early 30’s. From that point forward, many people work their jobs and only do training or development courses when they are required to by their employer or to keep a specific license or certification.
