Hello, hello! This week I was out with some friends and we were doing some off-roading in my truck. I stopped for a moment so we could look at some wildlife in the area.

When we decided to go again, I shifted the car and hit the gas. By accident, I shifted to neutral so I wasn’t going anywhere. I casually said to my friends, “Well, I can’t go anywhere without the car in gear. I can’t go back or forward.” To which my friend replied, “There’s a lot of good lessons we can take from that.” So what are some lessons we can learn from that?

There’s a lot of great lessons about progress. I want to focus this episode on what we can do in leadership to avoid being stuck in neutral. In leadership, we can’t be stuck in neutral. Instead, we need to be progressing to move forward!

Sneak Peek

In this episode, I will share five ways we can move forward in our leadership.

Leadership Tip of the Week

Create an agenda for your meetings and hold to it. The most ineffective meetings I have ever attended have been the ones where there was no agenda from the start. Everyone showed up to the meeting with different expectations which led to confusion, frustration, and ineffective meetings.

The agenda may seem insignificant or be overlooked, but it is extremely important for the success of the meeting. The agenda acts as a roadmap for the meeting. It provides direction and helps people stay on track.

An agenda should include the following:

  • The date and time of the meeting
  • The title of the meeting
  • The end goals, purpose, and specific objectives of the meeting
  • The meeting facilitator
  • The person in charge of taking meeting minutes.
  • The main points/topics that will be discussed
  • The length of time you will talk about each topic

5 Tips for Leadership and Personal Progress

As I mentioned at the start, if we are stuck in neutral, we are not moving forward. That holds us back from becoming the leader we are meant to be. So let’s get down to business and discuss five tips to make leadership and personal progress! [Read more…] about Podcast Episode #63 — 5 Tips For Leadership and Personal Progress

In today’s episode, I will discuss how to become great leaders through small and simple means. We’ll discuss five actions you can take daily to become a great leader.

The Search for Gold

I want to start with a story from a speech I heard by M. Russell Ballard called Finding Joy through Loving Service. He said:

Oftentimes we are like the young merchant from Boston, who in 1849, as the story goes, was caught up in the fervor of the California gold rush. He sold all of his possessions to seek his fortune in the California rivers, which he was told were filled with gold nuggets so big that one could hardly carry them.

Discouragement Through Difficulties

Day after endless day, the young man dipped his pan into the river and came up empty. His only reward was a growing pile of rocks. Discouraged and broke, he was ready to quit until one day an old, experienced prospector said to him, “That’s quite a pile of rocks you are getting there, my boy.”

The young man replied, “There’s no gold here. I’m going back home.”

Walking over to the pile of rocks, the old prospector said, “Oh, there is gold all right. You just have to know where to find it.” He picked two rocks up in his hands and crashed them together. One of the rocks split open, revealing several flecks of gold sparkling in the sunlight.

Noticing a bulging leather pouch fastened to the prospector’s waist, the young man said, “I’m looking for nuggets like the ones in your pouch, not just tiny flecks.” [Read more…] about Podcast Episode #59 — Leadership Greatness by Small and Simple Actions

3 Actions To Learn Something New Everyday

By Brandon W. Jones on November 8, 2017 0

Hi, and welcome to the Leadership Done Right YouTube Channel. There’s a common saying that, “You learn something new everyday.” Many people say that as if it is a proven fact and it is inevitable. However, I believe that learning only takes place if you proactively choose to learn. There are people in the world that fail at the same thing over and over again and yet they approach everything exactly same each time.

They are not learning from their experience when they are repeating it over and over and not changing their actions. Sure, everyone goes through a new experience everyday, but does that mean that they are learning everyday? Not necessarily.

3 Actions to Learn Something New Everyday

Seek Learning By Study and By Faith

To learn something new everyday, it’s important to actively seek learning by study and by faith. There are many ways that you can learn. You can learn from organized education, an online course, audiobooks, or by other means. Regardless of how you seek learning, it’s important to study and have the faith to practice what you are learning.

For example, if you’re going through a math class, do everything you can to learn by studying the material and have faith in yourself that you can learn it. Also, have faith that what you are learning is practical and will be useful in your life.

Having faith that what you are learning, in any aspect, can be put it into action, will help you to learn more in the future.

Three Steps You Can Take To Learn Daily

Now, let’s look at how or where you can begin your learning. So, how can you begin your learning? Well, l like to use these three methods to learn something new each day. [Read more…] about 3 Actions To Learn Something New Everyday

Walt Disney

There are few who have had as enormous an impact on our culture and entertainment as Walt Disney. As co-creator of Mickey Mouse he helped to create the most popular and well-known cartoon character in the world. As the founder of Walt Disney Studios, he was an artist who changed animation and film-making forever and has been delighting and inspiring audiences for nearly 100 years. And, of course, when he brought us Disneyland he created a place unlike any other, one that still thrills the imaginations of children and adults today.

But the road to this kind of success and influence wasn’t easy, and it couldn’t have happened without Disney’s ceaseless hard work and unwavering belief in his dreams. Disney faced numerous obstacles—he was put to work at just nine years old, had only an eighth-grade education and almost no formal training in art, and suffered multiple business setbacks. However, he saw these not as failings but as leadership adversity that helped to make him the great visionary and businessman he became. http://www.learningliftoff.com/overcoming-obstacles-hard-work-and-persistence-paid-off-for-walt-disney/#.WaNDkq3MyRs

I love learning and with back to school time just around the corner, today is a great day to start thinking about learning. If you are young you can go back to school or college. But what if you are not in that stage anymore? How can you continue to learn?

Devastation Before The Blessing

I recently heard a lady speak that said she married young. Not long after getting married, she started having kids and soon she had seven kids. What a big family! She was in the late stages of her eighth pregnancy when she found out that her husband had a debilitating disease. He went from being a normal active person to being only there physically but mentally in another place. It was such a devastation.

The disease took such a toll on his body that he went downhill extremely fast. They eventually had to put him into a nursing home and lost him not long after. So here this lady was, eight kids, and not much more education than a high school diploma. [Read more…] about Podcast Episode #9 – 4 Methods to Learn Today
