Leadership Qualities

Leadership Consistency

By Brandon W. Jones on June 1, 2011 4

Most of people have had leaders that were very consistent, as well as, others that were inconsistent. Consistency is very important as a leader.  I want to address two points related to consistency.

Leadership Consistency

Inconsistency

In order to understand the importance of consistency, you must first understand what happens with inconsistency.  When leaders are inconsistent many problems occur.  The inconsistency comes in many forms.  Some forms of leadership inconsistency occur when leaders treat certain employees different than others.  [Read more…] about Leadership Consistency

Sense of Accomplishment

By Brandon W. Jones on May 16, 2011 2

Recently, I’ve had a much harder time posting blogs and keeping up-to-date on social media.  For those of you that wondered what happened, I just finished the Master’s in Business Administration program at the University of Nevada – Reno. Completion of the MBA program has given me quite the sense of accomplishment.

The last month of class and finals was very intense and required all my efforts.  Now that I am completely done, I should have more time to blog.

Obtain Your Own Sense of Accomplishment

For leaders to gain their own sense of accomplishment, they must do the right things. One leadership topic that comes up all the time is the importance of setting and accomplishing goals.  Goals are very important because they give us direction in life.  They set us on a path that leads to future accomplishments.  As a part of setting goals, one aspect rarely discussed is what to do upon completion of the particular goal.  After you accomplish a major goal, you may experience a let-down period.  After working hard for a long time, you may wonder what to do with yourself.  Once you complete a goal, there are three things you can do to move forward.

Make the Performance Review a Positive Experience

By Brandon W. Jones on March 23, 2011 0

Each year most employers give their employees an annual performance review. One complaint I have with many leaders is that they save up all they negative feedback for the annual review. This is very inappropriate. The annual performance review should be a time of reflection on the past year, not a gripe session. The annual performance review is a time for leaders to do three things.

Give Constructive Criticism

It is important for leaders to point out strengths of their employees prior to giving any criticism. Once the strengths have been discussed, leaders can identify areas of weakness within their employees. Once the weakness has been discussed, the leader should give the employees suggestions on how to improve and overcome their weakness. If the leader does not give suggestions for improvement, the employee will feel less valued. [Read more…] about Make the Performance Review a Positive Experience

Don’t Stop Learning Leaders!

By Brandon W. Jones on February 7, 2011 0

Many leaders in the work force have worked for a very long time.  Some of these leaders begin to become very complacent and think to themselves, “Technology was not nearly as prevalent when I started my career and we got along just fine.  And besides the industry hasn’t changed that much in the last 20 years, why do I need to get involved in technology?”

Building and Sustaining Self Confidence

By Brandon W. Jones on May 9, 2010 2

One challenge that many people face in becoming great is their own self-doubt. How can you overcome your own doubts and thoughts of discouragement?

Self Confidence

I would like to suggest some things I have found useful in overcoming self-doubt.

  1. Know your strengths and weaknesses
  2. Continuously Work to strengthen your weaknesses
  3. Don’t be afraid to try
  4. Know that after many tries with failure, you will eventually find success.
  5. Do your very best and know that God will take care of the rest.
  6. Believe in yourself
  7. Write your goals and work to obtain them.

Here is a video that shows someone who has overcome their own self-doubt.

This video has been around for a while, but Paul Potts is a great example of overcoming self-doubt and taking a chance.  As most of us, he had challenges with self confidence.  By realizing his strengths, he was able to overcome his doubt.  He took a chance by auditioning for Britian’s Got Talent and now he is very successful and is able to do what he is best at.
