5 Time Management Strategies to Improve Your Leadership

By Brandon W. Jones on June 16, 2017 0

When you are dependable, reliable, trustworthy, and/or in leadership, people ask you to do many things. If, however, you let others plan your time, you will never reach your goals or do what is important to you. Even though you possess great leadership qualities, your time is still limited. Therefore, it is extremely important to know time management strategies to make the most of your time. In this post we’ll discuss five time management strategies to help you make the best use of your time.

Five Time Management Strategies to Improve Your Leadership

Time Management: Start with a Time Study

Before we get to the time management strategies, however, it is important to know where you spend your time. Perform a time study to determine exactly what you do with your time. For the next week or two, write down exactly what you do with every hour of every day. You can even get more granular if you would like by tracking half or quarter hours. Once you track your time, summarize the results to categorize where you spend your time.

Five Time Management Strategies to Improve Your Leadership - Prioritize

1. Prioritize What’s Most Important To You!

First, prioritize what is most important to you. That gives you parameters for saying yes and no to various requests. A few examples of common priorities are:

  • Family
  • Faith
  • Employment/Career
  • Hobbies
  • Health

When prioritizing, remember that every time you say, “Yes,” you are also saying no to things in the future. It is not always bad to say, “No,” when the “no” gives you more time to focus on what’s most important to you. [Read more…] about 5 Time Management Strategies to Improve Your Leadership

One of my favorite statements about why you should create a vision is found in Proverbs 29:18. It says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” In episode #1 I explained that one of a leaders most important responsibilities is to create a vision for those they lead.

5 Proactive Ways to Perform at a Peak Level

By Brandon W. Jones on February 2, 2015 0

This is a guest post by Thomas Blake. Thomas is a writing consultant and owns an organization which provides professional essay help to college and university students. He also runs a training centre where students are given IT training.

Proactive

In today’s cutting edge of technology, managers have to build effective action plans to meet workplace and economic challenges smoothly. Due to high competition and inflation managers have to plan ahead to steer their workforce in the right direction. Therefore it is crucial for leaders to learn proactive ways they can empower them to deal with unstable economic pressure easily and quickly. However, if you’re also a manager or leader of a reputable firm, then you should learn proactive ways to smartly deal with bad economies.

Positive Attitude

The very first thing that any business needs to perform at peak level is the positive attitude. With positive attitude you could easily move toward your required goals. Keep in mind to avoid all distractions that negatively affect your business operations. If you will believe in negativity, then it would become a nightmare for you to beat others with hard work. Thus consume your energy in positive elements to steer your workforce in the right direction. [Read more…] about 5 Proactive Ways to Perform at a Peak Level

Three Techniques to Effectively Lead By Example

By Brandon W. Jones on December 6, 2014 4

Several years ago when I was a young leader, I had a great leader that taught me many valuable lessons that  stuck with me. That leader was very experienced, well known, and successful. One lesson he taught me was how to effectively lead by example.

Three Techniques to Lead By Example

He explained three techniques that every good leader should follow.

Teach followers what to do.

To lead by example, It is very important to teach your followers how to do their jobs effectively and be good leaders by following successful leadership principles. This teaching should come in the form of verbal explanations. On many occasions, this teaching is done in a classroom setting. As the leader, you should verbally teach your followers to be good leaders so they can lead effectively when called upon.

Now!! Get Your Projects Done On Time!

By Brandon W. Jones on October 20, 2014 0

“Today is the deadline!  You promised me that project would be done on time!  Why is this project late?”  “What are you going to do to get this job done now!?”  If you have heard these statements and questions as a leader, you are not alone.

Get Your Projects Done on Time

Leaders everywhere are trying to produce quality results on time and within budget.  In leadership, it is very important to get your desired results.  So how do you get your employees to produce the desired results?  It starts with two things.

First, you must properly explain the desired outcome at the start of the project.

In order to get the desired results, leaders must clearly explain their expectations.  They must also identify the scope of the project and give clear objectives.  In addition, the leader must let each person know what their specific responsibilities are and how their part fits into the entire project.  Once you, as the leader, show them the big picture, they will have a greater sense of purpose as they do their part.  In line with setting clear expectations, you must lay out the timeline, so everyone knows their due dates.  As a final step, you must hold each person responsible to do their part.  When they don’t do their part, you must follow through with the consequences. Leaders, Why Aren’t You Having Success?

By Brandon W. Jones on February 19, 2011 0

When I think about what it takes to have success, I think of goals. Goals are key because they create direction for people once they have drive to do something. Goals are very important in obtaining your vision for the future. Without a goal nothing is ever accomplished.

Leaders, Why Aren’t You Having Success?

All goals must be S.M.A.R.T. goals. The acronym S.M.A.R.T. stands for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely. There are four timeframes for which leaders must set goals. The four timeframes are long, medium, short, and immediate term.

Long Term Goals

Long term goals are the goals you set for 10 – 20 years down the road. In setting the long term goals, you must have a big picture view of your future. Where do you want to be? What are your financial goals? Where do you see your career? What are your goals for your family? What goals do you have for relationships, i.e. family, spouse, coworkers, friends, etc? You must think long term when setting these goals.
