Hello, hello! This week I was out with some friends and we were doing some off-roading in my truck. I stopped for a moment so we could look at some wildlife in the area.

When we decided to go again, I shifted the car and hit the gas. By accident, I shifted to neutral so I wasn’t going anywhere. I casually said to my friends, “Well, I can’t go anywhere without the car in gear. I can’t go back or forward.” To which my friend replied, “There’s a lot of good lessons we can take from that.” So what are some lessons we can learn from that?

There’s a lot of great lessons about progress. I want to focus this episode on what we can do in leadership to avoid being stuck in neutral. In leadership, we can’t be stuck in neutral. Instead, we need to be progressing to move forward!

Sneak Peek

In this episode, I will share five ways we can move forward in our leadership.

Leadership Tip of the Week

Create an agenda for your meetings and hold to it. The most ineffective meetings I have ever attended have been the ones where there was no agenda from the start. Everyone showed up to the meeting with different expectations which led to confusion, frustration, and ineffective meetings.

The agenda may seem insignificant or be overlooked, but it is extremely important for the success of the meeting. The agenda acts as a roadmap for the meeting. It provides direction and helps people stay on track.

An agenda should include the following:

  • The date and time of the meeting
  • The title of the meeting
  • The end goals, purpose, and specific objectives of the meeting
  • The meeting facilitator
  • The person in charge of taking meeting minutes.
  • The main points/topics that will be discussed
  • The length of time you will talk about each topic

5 Tips for Leadership and Personal Progress

As I mentioned at the start, if we are stuck in neutral, we are not moving forward. That holds us back from becoming the leader we are meant to be. So let’s get down to business and discuss five tips to make leadership and personal progress! [Read more…] about Podcast Episode #63 — 5 Tips For Leadership and Personal Progress

3 Actions To Learn Something New Everyday

By Brandon W. Jones on November 8, 2017 0

Hi, and welcome to the Leadership Done Right YouTube Channel. There’s a common saying that, “You learn something new everyday.” Many people say that as if it is a proven fact and it is inevitable. However, I believe that learning only takes place if you proactively choose to learn. There are people in the world that fail at the same thing over and over again and yet they approach everything exactly same each time.

They are not learning from their experience when they are repeating it over and over and not changing their actions. Sure, everyone goes through a new experience everyday, but does that mean that they are learning everyday? Not necessarily.

3 Actions to Learn Something New Everyday

Seek Learning By Study and By Faith

To learn something new everyday, it’s important to actively seek learning by study and by faith. There are many ways that you can learn. You can learn from organized education, an online course, audiobooks, or by other means. Regardless of how you seek learning, it’s important to study and have the faith to practice what you are learning.

For example, if you’re going through a math class, do everything you can to learn by studying the material and have faith in yourself that you can learn it. Also, have faith that what you are learning is practical and will be useful in your life.

Having faith that what you are learning, in any aspect, can be put it into action, will help you to learn more in the future.

Three Steps You Can Take To Learn Daily

Now, let’s look at how or where you can begin your learning. So, how can you begin your learning? Well, l like to use these three methods to learn something new each day. [Read more…] about 3 Actions To Learn Something New Everyday

How You Can Visualize Success

By Brandon W. Jones on November 1, 2017 6

For many years, people have said that if you visualize success it will eventually come true. This principle has been followed in athletics, business, and education to name a few. It is commonly applied to wealth where people believe that if you visualize yourself rich, you will eventually become rich (e.g. Think and Grow Rich, The Science of Getting Rich).

The Wall Street Journal published an article called Can You Get Rich by Visualizing Yourself Rich? by Robert Frank. Robert Frank dug into the idea of visualization and what it means to visualize success. Robert included a story  about Sara Blakely, the billionaire founder of Spanx, because she is a strong proponent of visualization.

If You Visualize It Will It Happen?

Sara said, “I believe you can take mental snapshots of your future and visualize success for yourself. If you mentally see yourself in a scenario, you’ll start to make decisions in your life that get you there.” Robert also explained that there are many critics that say visualization is just a flight from realism. What do you think? Does visualization really lead to success?

Does it Work to Visualize Success?

Many people and organizations have visions and vision statements. They use those visions to guide their employees to success. Visualization is similar to having a vision or vision statement, but it goes a little deeper. So let’s take a look at visualization.

What is Visualization?

Have you ever imagined in your mind how a situation will go before it happened? You probably thought about how the scenario would play out, comments people would make, and the room or environment in which it would happen?

If you have ever done this, you have visualized the situation. When people visualize success, they run through scenarios in their mind where they are successful over and over again before the situation actually happens.

People do visualization in a number of ways. Here’s just a few:

  • Visualize what you want and then write it down 15 times a day
  • Sit in a quiet location and run through a situation in your mind several times before it actually happens
  • Just before you are about to go on stage, in front of your boss, etc. take a quick moment to imagine yourself being successful

It is probably clear from the examples that the main ingredient to visualize success is to imagine the scenario in your mind before it actually happens. [Read more…] about How You Can Visualize Success

I love learning and with back to school time just around the corner, today is a great day to start thinking about learning. If you are young you can go back to school or college. But what if you are not in that stage anymore? How can you continue to learn?

Devastation Before The Blessing

I recently heard a lady speak that said she married young. Not long after getting married, she started having kids and soon she had seven kids. What a big family! She was in the late stages of her eighth pregnancy when she found out that her husband had a debilitating disease. He went from being a normal active person to being only there physically but mentally in another place. It was such a devastation.

The disease took such a toll on his body that he went downhill extremely fast. They eventually had to put him into a nursing home and lost him not long after. So here this lady was, eight kids, and not much more education than a high school diploma. [Read more…] about Podcast Episode #9 – 4 Methods to Learn Today

Getting More by Stuart Diamond – Book Review

By Brandon W. Jones on June 23, 2017 1

Getting More by Stuart Diamond

Getting More: How You Can Negotiate To Succeed In Work And Life by Stuart Diamond is one of my favorite books. I strongly recommend this book to every leader. Stuart Diamond teaches a method of negotiation that is different from some of the more common types of negotiation of getting to yes, getting to no, or doing what it takes to make the deal. Instead, he focuses on negotiating with each person so that everyone comes away happy because they got what they wanted.

Getting More by Stuart Diamond

When Do You Negotiate?

Often people think negotiations only happens when people are closing a business deal, getting their client out of a jam in the courtroom, or buying a car on a car lot. Although each scenario involves negotiations, did you know you are always negotiating? Here is just a short list of examples of people/scenarios where you negotiate:

  • Interactions with your
    • Spouse
    • Children
    • Friends
    • Neighbors
  • Shopping
  • Traveling
  • Requesting Refunds
  • Restaurants
  • And… Pretty much anytime you have a human interaction!

Tools Of Titans by Tim Ferriss – Book Review

By Brandon W. Jones on May 19, 2017 0

Tools of Titans: The Tactics, Routines, And Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World-Class Performers by Tim Ferriss is a great book. In Tools of Titans, Tim Ferriss interviews 107 people from a wide variety of backgrounds. They have many different skillsets and talents. But, they all have one thing in common, they are  very successful in their selected discipline.

Tools of Titans: The Tactics, Routines, And Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World-class Performers

Tim wrote Tools of Titans with the purpose of it being a resource for people. It is a large book so he doesn’t expect that everyone will read it cover to cover. Instead, people should skim through all of it and read the parts most important and relevant to them. The parts that aren’t as applicable can be saved for another time.

There are three main sections or areas of focus. The purpose of this post is to give you a sample and flavor of what you will find in Tools of Titans. I will give you an overview of Tim’s main areas of focus. [Read more…] about Tools Of Titans by Tim Ferriss – Book Review
