Hi friends! There’s a lot of people that start out their careers with all the motivation in the world to become great leaders. They want to change the world and start out working hard to be great. For the first few years or even longer, they hit the ground running. As years begin to pass, the motivation starts to slip and all the dreams of success and changing the world fade.

The drive to make every day count fades. The new desire is to do what it takes to get through each day, but then leave as soon as they can to enjoy life. Their strong dedication gets replaced with a very common disease. Now this is a very serious disease.

I have seen great people get infected with this disease to where it completely derailed their career drive. In the worst cases, this disease can lead to the loss of jobs. If you are still wondering what this terrible disease is, I like to call it complacency.

In this episode, I am going to talk about three things that happen when complacency sets in and five tips to overcome complacency.

What Happens When Complacency Sets In?

Alright, let’s talk about what happens when complacency sets in. Several years ago, I had a great leader, Larry Spackman. He taught me a valuable lesson about complacency. He was very successful in everything he did and attributed his success to his strong drive and unrelenting desire to never back down when working to complete his goals.

When I was around him, he always stressed the importance of working hard and doing your very best. In addition, he lived what he taught. Because he was so driven, he despised complacency. He taught that complacency would keep you from reaching your dreams and goals. Larry taught me to avoid complacency at all cost and his example confirmed the validity of what taught.

There are three major side effects that come with a complacent attitude. [Read more…] about Podcast Episode 76 — How to Recognize and Avoid Complacency In Leadership!

Get to Know Jacob Baadsgaard

Hi friends! We have a special guest today. Our guest founded Disruptive Advertising in 2012 and has grown the company to over 120 employees and 17 million dollars in annual revenue in only 3.5 years. Disruptive Advertising helps businesses advertise profitably on Google and Facebook.

While most business leaders focus on personal financial gain, our guest reinvests a fair amount of his profits back into his employees and the community. He also develops employees with no experience into leadership roles within his company that earn six figure salaries.

He is a regular contributor on sites like Forbes, Entrepreneur, MarketingLand, Unbounce, KissMetrics as well as others.

Our guest today is Jacob Baadsgaard. Jacob, welcome to the show!

Jacob’s Why

While in the corporate world, Jacob realized that regardless of how much effort he gave his employer, he would not be compensated accordingly. He could put forth effort X and get paid X or he could put forth effort 10X and get paid X.1. There was a disconnect. His desire was to bridge that gap so there was more alignment.

Jacob also had a desire to lead and help others. He thrives on helping people work hard and then be compensated for their hard work. He decided to start his own business to help others and himself do just that. He attributes his success and the success of his organization to their ability to create an environment where people have a lot more influence and control of their direction and progression. 3 Actions To Learn Something New Everyday

By Brandon W. Jones on November 8, 2017 0

Hi, and welcome to the Leadership Done Right YouTube Channel. There’s a common saying that, “You learn something new everyday.” Many people say that as if it is a proven fact and it is inevitable. However, I believe that learning only takes place if you proactively choose to learn. There are people in the world that fail at the same thing over and over again and yet they approach everything exactly same each time.

They are not learning from their experience when they are repeating it over and over and not changing their actions. Sure, everyone goes through a new experience everyday, but does that mean that they are learning everyday? Not necessarily.

3 Actions to Learn Something New Everyday

Seek Learning By Study and By Faith

To learn something new everyday, it’s important to actively seek learning by study and by faith. There are many ways that you can learn. You can learn from organized education, an online course, audiobooks, or by other means. Regardless of how you seek learning, it’s important to study and have the faith to practice what you are learning.

For example, if you’re going through a math class, do everything you can to learn by studying the material and have faith in yourself that you can learn it. Also, have faith that what you are learning is practical and will be useful in your life.

Having faith that what you are learning, in any aspect, can be put it into action, will help you to learn more in the future.

Three Steps You Can Take To Learn Daily

Now, let’s look at how or where you can begin your learning. So, how can you begin your learning? Well, l like to use these three methods to learn something new each day. [Read more…] about 3 Actions To Learn Something New Everyday

Get to Know Patrick

Podcast Episode #22 — How To Recognize And Change Behavior For The Best Outcome with Patrick CasanovaOur guest today is originally from Tucson, Arizona. As a young man he dabbled in filmmaking and graphic art. It wasn’t until later, in his career at Southwest Gas, that he saw Organizational Development as the route he wanted to pursue. He had already acquired a degree in Psychology and went on to accomplish a Masters of Science in Leadership. At that time with Southwest Gas he held a PHR (Professional in Human Resources) from the Society for Human Resource Management.

The Jump into Organizational Development

His first couple of years in OD was spent traveling around the country acquiring certifications. He received certifications to train everything from typological tools, such as Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, to Situational Leadership, Kepner-Tregoe and half a dozen Franklin Covey courses and more. Next week, he will be on to his 19th certification in Change Management with Prosci.

Early Retirement

Patrick took early retirement from Southwest Gas to accomplish life goals. He lived for a short while in the South of France and continues to explore various countries that fascinate him. After three years away, Southwest Gas called to enlist him as a consultant. He currently assists the Organizational Development Department and the Project Management Office.

How I met Patrick

I had the privilege of attending several of his classes and have learned a lot from him about leadership and organizational development. He really knows his stuff! Our guest today is Patrick Casanova. Patrick, welcome to the Leadership Done Right Podcast.

How To Recognize And Change Behavior For The Best Outcome

Sometimes I talk about leadership in a typology because it helps people understand. For example, DiCS explains, “D-Direct, I-Cheerleader, S-supportive, C-Fact focused.” Coming up in leadership I realized I had to change behavior. Being an abstract thinker and working with a lot of engineers that are more of your C’s, I had to change behavior to better relate to people. Check out How to Change With The Right Mindset. How to Develop Your Personal Development Plan Strategy

By Brandon W. Jones on July 26, 2017 0

Create Your Personal Development Plan Strategy

Hi, and welcome to the Leadership Done Right YouTube channel! In this video, we are going to answer the question, “How can YOU develop the strategy for your personal development plan?”

As mentioned in the last video, whether you are trying to obtain your ideal life, become a highly successful leader, pick up a new skill, develop a new hobby, or improve in some other way, it is very important that you have a personal development plan.

Develop Your Personal Development Plan Strategy

Develop Your Personal Development Plan Strategy

So let’s talk about how you can develop a strategy for your personal development plan. Before anything else, it’s important to understand that your personal development plan is an active living, breathing, and changing plan. It can and should change from year to year. Once this is understood, consider the following.

When you develop your strategy, identify what you want out of life. What does your ideal life look like? What short, medium, and long-term goals will help you obtain your ideal life? By thinking about these questions, you can create a personal development plan that helps you get from where you are NOW, to where you want to be.
